I read on FB that they had a partial nest collapse today due to a lot of rain and both Eaglets slid off. Due to the remote location of the nest, they can't get out to check on them until AM. :egg15:

From this afternoon..they were drenched...this doesn't sound good at all..I was just reading chat. The first one went off at 8:50 pm, the second at 9:40. This must have been horrifying to watch..

weather tonight isn't good either...rain and temps in upper 50"s...

But, I have to think back to Great Spirit Bluff last year..I personally didn't think any of those chicks could survive that leap....and they did...

What an amazing morning. It is sad what happened last night. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. As you might know one chick did not survive the fall. I believe it was the smaller male. The other was breathing when techs arrived about 6am. We carefully transported the suvivor to a parking lot between the nest and a local raptor rescue service where we met and transferred the bird to them. The intial observation by rescue service sounded very good. The bird that did not survive was taken to USFish and Wildlife service I have some photos to post later.Updates will be posted as we learn more.

Updates on the rescued Jordan Lake eaglet
May 16, 2014 — American Wildlife Refuge, bald eagle, birds, Eagle, eaglecam, eagleholic, eaglet, Jordan Lake, nature, raptors, rescue

photo of rescued eaglet courtesy of the American Wildlife Refuge where our little one is being looked after so wonderfully. Website: http://awrefuge.org

Listed below are the updates that have been put out either by the Jordan Lake cam folks, or the Wildlife Refuge

American Wildlife Refuge From FB page – Update: We will not be re-nesting the bird because she has an injury we need to address first. She is stable and seems to be recovering well from the shock of being on the ground in a rainstorm after a 60 foot fall. We’ll know more as she gets more active and aware
