We are awaiting the return of Iris and Stanley at the Hellgate Canyon Osprey nest. A female landed on the nest early this morning. Is it our beloved Iris?

Well, this is a regular Peyton Place...I am not sure what has happened..FB is hard for me to follow because they use names of the birds and don't reference the nest..

From what I could piece together..and I still am not sure if this is right...but, there is a new male? Stan? Anyway, he destroyed/kicked out the first clutch of eggs.

There is a new egg..but you can't see it because of the grasses!!!

As far as I know Stanley is the male from last year. He arrived a little late and Iris had already mated with another male.
Stanley took care of him, chased him off and destroyed the eggs. Iris laid a third egg but that seems to be discarded by both, probably because it likely was fertilized by the now ex- lover.
You're right about one thing; it's a soap :teehee:

First chick June 12

Image pic by Pam LeMieux

Hi all,
Second chick on the way right now - 9 AM Mountain time on Friday, 13 June 2014! You can see the second egg pipping. If you watch closely you can see the chick's beak with the egg tooth moving inside the egg as it works to enlarge the hole. So the first chick might have a sibling later today!
Cheers,
Erick Greene

Hi all,
The third chick is on the way! You can see it is working hard at pipping its way out of its egg. This picture was from Sunday at 3:15 PM - so we should have the third chick later today or early Monday! Woo hoo!
Some of you also noticed that the second chick managed to flip over on its back this morning. Its chubby little legs were pedaling around for a while, but it did manage to right itself. This usually happens once or twice when the chicks are small. When they grow a little bigger they have no trouble righting themselves.
Cheers,
Erick Greene

The third Hellgate Osprey nestling has hatched in Montana!
