Mayo clinic update :sorrow:

We are sad to share some difficult news about the Mayo clinic brood of chicks in Rochester, MN. All four chicks appear to have died at some point today, at about a week of age. We are uncertain as to the cause of death, and may never know. MPS and the Mayo heritage team are working closely together to continue to observe the adults and see if we can identify the cause of death in the chicks.

We need to remember that web cams can be a great tool for monitoring wildlife and get a glimpse into their life. However, it can also be a difficult time to witness death of something so very young, but it is not necessarily that uncommon.

As we learn more about the site, we will share it here with you.

I wonder if I should write them. If you remember , we had to remove all 4 of our chicks at U of A last year. They were all very sick and nearly died. Dr. Gordon Court, nursed them back to health with a very expensive medicine. I could put them in touch with Gord. another day and we would have lost them all.
We had to treat our box with a special solution this year and change substrate.

I feel so bad as I had not had time to check after I noticed 4 chicks being fed. I cheeked early today an d all 4 were alive. but now that i think of it, they did looked different.
this gets harder and harder some days.

hopefully , they removed them and will test them. these were great parents.
