Beth, I don't know, but was wondering the same thing. She was incubating the egg when I came in and therefore could not see under her. But, we know one of three things will happen: they will become part of the nest, Dad will take them away or we will see the Circle of Life. This is a very sad day! :girlsad3:

Dad flew off at 7:08 pm after about 25 minutes. He has not been back since then.

The babies are still in the nest. Mom has been trying to pull the egg a little ways away from them, but by the time she gets back on it, it has rolled back up against C2. So she has been sitting on both the egg and C2. Chick #1 is next to her on the camera side. I have noticed a couple of flies nosing around.

At the conclusion of the 6:00 pm newscast, the station did a nice tribute to the O family. They showed film clips that started back with the O’s initial arrival & construction of the nest, all the way up until yesterday. I got the impression they are going to have another tribute on the late news. You can tune in online at Fox28 from 10-11 PM and ABC6 from 11:00 to 11:35 pm. You can get those feeds here:

Be advised that they just show endless advertising at that link until the newscast begins in its scheduled time slot.

:egg19: Thanks Johnisaly! I thought the tribute was precious. Also, enjoyed seeing the view of their environs.

Thank you all for posting - and I'm glad the cam was back up so we could know Mom is OK. It's really hard for first time pairs to be successful (and so wonderful when they succeed) (and so sad when they don't).

I also watch eagle cams - and some pairs lay their eggs too early, when it's so cold that they can't leave the eggs for more than a few minutes. I think this may be the flip side of that - if it hadn't been so hot when the chicks were so small, Mom could have much more safely left for a few hours to defend the nest or whatever she was doing.

The good news is that odds are that they'll be back earlier next year, and they not only will have learned more but it also seems that some instincts take time to kick in - I'm thinking almost every pair of eagles or osprey I've watched who had a bad first year did much better the next year. Which doesn't help with the pain right now, but perhaps will provide a bit of comfort in a few weeks.

(((((hugs)))))

 Just saw most of the news report on Fox ABC 6 where they interviewed Donna. The news staff also shared their insights from today and realized for the first time this nest is watched "around the world" and they received comments to FB from same and are aware now that people are monitoring their osprey site without any "heads up" from them! It was a wonderful piece! Donna encouraged them to use this as a chance to educate about wildlife. She was wonderful as always! Hoping they will leave the cam up and understand what in time will happen with the chicks remains is a part of this education with "birds of prey" even as hard as it is to have seen this happen to these very special babies! I just want to go somewhere and have a long cry now ...

Morning ...

Judy was right about the timing.
Babies hatched lateish and they
needed more protection from the
elements. They can't regulate their body temps.
at such a young age.

Donna is soooooo good!!

Cam is offline right now...

I guess they have kept the nest off cam today as I have not seen it once today during my checks. Skyscrapers are a little closer in view on cam now ... can see the Rhodes ... would be able to see a falcon fly, but not identify! :egg8:

Sally, I could not find a link with the interview with Donna yesterday, so I watched it ( a recording) on their live 9 pm broadcast on Fox. Sorry, I had looked and looked yesterday for it.

The adult left the nest at 5:09. The egg is in the shade.

The station flipped the cam back to skyline view at 5:20. It would help if everyone would call/email the station and ask them to keep streaming the nest cam.
