I'm catching up on sites I follow and naturally am heartbroken over the news of 2 more chicks lost this last season here. I really want to see Rachel and Steve return in April and have a nesting season free of any hardships ... they are way overdue for one ...

For having sound on the main nest, please open the nest branch cam on a separate tab until the main microphone is fixed. Thank you!

Happy Thursday, Friends!

Steve is still within his return date schedule. He used to return between April 10 and April 13, except in 2013 and 2017, when he arrived on April 5 and April 7. Rachel on the other hand, was the proverbial early bird, this year. Show a bit of confidence: Trust Nature, trust Osprey!

:spring1: Rachel has yet to lay an egg, but should be real soon as she has been hanging around the nest more and at night some. There is a new couple on the boathouse nest and they have been seen mating.

:spring1: Here's a video by Regina Hornung of the new boathouse couple. To me he looks very young and slender! The video is over 19 minutes long, so I scanned through it to see, I don't think he really moved till 17:55!! Very submissive for now. Poppy the mod has commentary of this incident that I placed below the video.

Since female raptors are bigger and stronger than males, he needs to assure her that he only has good intentions. Hence, his submissive behavior. Even "old" couples do it, such as Steve at the beginning of each season. And she is calling for a fish delivery, as well part of the courtship behaviour. At the end of the clip, you can see as well, that he is showing off his nest building skills - forming the nest bowl with his entire body.

And here is an incredible capture of Rachel and the egg before it clears her by pennalope2Illinois,USA who said: "I think it is the egg starting to come out a while before she gave it a couple more pushes to get it out."
