Clarach recorded yesterday displaying possible incubating behaviours but we haven't got a clear image to confirm there is an egg at the moment. CL (male) not seen on the nest since 1st May. Clarach now mating with unringed male from Friday 3rd May. Could be the same male as 2018 but we don't know.

Both Clarach and unringed male have been spending a lot of time on the nest together this morning and some mating observed (Sunday 5th May). They have been looking quite territorial. Sorry for the poor quality video.

May 7 at 12:58 PM · AERON IS BACK AT A TWO-YEAR OLD!!!!!!!!

He's the 5th Dyfi bird to have been spotted as an adult and he was Glesni's last son. We've now had a chick back as an adult from ALL of Glesni's five years with us - astonishing.

May 7 at 8:47 PM ·Here's the video of our boy returning earlier today.

The three musketeers! 150th Chick!

By Marie Dipple on May 14, 2019

What a terrific Tuesday! I arrived at the center to open up this morning,
with the phone ringing as I stepped in through the door.
Tom and Ann Price, our vigilant volunteers stationed down in Waderscrape hide,
had been watching our ospreys from dawn for any signs of another new arrival.
Tentatively they suggested they’d seen a third head pop up out of the nest as
Maya came down to feed the two chicks…
went back through the footage on the webcam and found…

3 bobbing heads calling for fish! This was fantastic to see and I trawled back
through the footage to catch a glimpse of the hatching event…

Loch of the Lowes, Scotland: 16 May 2019

Our third chick has hatched at Loch of the Lowes!

It’s been a long day and night for our team at Loch of the Lowes but, 20 hours after we first spotted a pip in the third egg, we can confirm we have three chicks this year! Yesterday marked 50 years to the day since the Scottish Wildlife Trust purchased Loch of the Lowes. Given the significance of the date we were delighted to see the first signs of the third chick hatching shortly after 9am.

We were feeling confident that we would celebrate our birthday with another chick! Of course, nature has its own ways. We faced a long wait through a gloriously sunny day, and into the evening. It was clear progress was being made as a pip turned into a hole and more cracks appeared. We also had several views of the chick breathing inside the egg. However, it wasn’t until 5.12 am that we saw LF15 fly off briefly from the nest, giving us our first look at the newly hatched chick.

Another trip to Aberfoyle, and Clarach on the eggs when I arrived, yelling for food (there's no sound on the webcam picture in the VC but you could tell from her behaviour). She turned the eggs a few times, then flew off for a break. The male flew in a minute later and sat straight on the eggs, closely followed by Clarach, still yelling for a fish. She took off again smartish I guess to get her own supper. I've posted the information board they have in the centre. It's interesting to note that her last observed mating with White CL was 30 April, and the first observed mating with the unringed male (maybe her partner from last year) was 3 May. First egg they reckon was laid 4 May.......who's the daddy? They're assuming she's had more eggs of course whose parentage is perhaps less in question! I'll post a few more snaps in a separate post....

The male arrived fishless. She'd been yelling for about an hour before she took off and he arrived a minute later, closely followed by her. Then she took off pretty smartish so maybe went fishing for herself. But the information board says he'd brought her a fish before (14 May) so all seems well. Of course, the staff at the VC aren't able to watch the camera much and if they only had US to watch it we'd see a lot more and could report on it. There's no chance the camera can be fixed now as the pair are on the nest.
