HH3 of the Hilton Head Island nest of Harriet and Mitch fell from the nest last evening. HH4 remains on the nest. Report early this morning from the gentleman who rescued HH3:

"HH3 did fall from the nest. He is still alive, although may well some serious injuries. It appear his fall was broken somewhat by lots of small branches. He Was lying on his back when I found him. Mom/Dad is in nearby tree. I have put HH3 in a safe location and called SC Raptor Center in Charleston. I will give an update on his condition. We will follow expert's advise on how to further handle situation.."

Last night HH3 fell out of the nest and was found alive this morning.
Update on HH3: We arrived at the Birds of Prey Center and HH3 was alert. The eaglet is in good hands at the center and they will do a full examination providing us with updates which we will share. We have such wonderful and caring viewers and the center has received many calls. They have asked us to be the point of contact for the information and keep the lines open for other injured birds. We hope to have an update by end of day.

South Bend falcon lovers: Please watch for Peace (P23, B/R) as he has not been seen as yet this season. A male (M/52) has been visiting this nest on a regular basis since the cam was noticed on for the season February 22nd. Maltese has been seen. If this male is M/52 (Black/Blue) then he is the the son of Moxie and Jamie from the Fort Wayne nest of 2019 per DEF. (Thanks DEF!) Hoping Peace is safe and well and returns.

2/26/2022 7:00 pm HH3 Update: To our Eagle viewers, HH3 is in critical condition and dehydrated which is to be expected after such a fall, so The Birds of Prey Avian Center has started all necessary medical treatments. More information is expected tomorrow after further diagnostics and assessments. They will be investigating all possible causes. As more information is available, we will share with our viewers. Unbelievably, HH4 of the Hilton Head Island nest fell tonight at about 9:55 EST. HH4 was also rescued and found on it's back just as HH3 was. Many viewers across multiple chat sites reported possible seizure activity prior to the fall. My understanding is Harriet has not been seen since Thursday and while Mitch did make a food delivery this morning to HH4, he has not been seen since. A very disturbing turn of events here. I am not sure, but believe Russell as mentioned below owns the cam and property the nest is located on. From HHI:

2/26/2022 10:30 pm HH4: We are aware of HH4 falling and The Birds of Prey has been contacted with the update and Russell has HH4 and will take in the morning if survives tonight. We will have an update in the morning. Prayers please.

From Russell on HHI eaglets 1 hour ago:

"I just dropped HH4 off at raptor center. He was like n very bad shape. No real update on HH3. . Both eaglets are in quarantine. They have reviewed videos when both fell out of nest. They will be running tests for lead poisoning, avian flu etc. At this point best “ guess” is avian flu which is very contagious and lethal, but only results of lab work can confirm. I will do a thorough search for mom later but she really could be anywhere .

Either Robin or I will provide more updates when we get info from raptor center."

Second update at HHI this morning, looking for Mitch too (not seen since yesterday morning):

2/27/2022 11:00 am HH3 and HH4: HH4 made it through the night and has been delivered to the Birds of Prey Center. Both HH3 and HH4 are in quarantine and will receive great care and continued testing. At this point, the focus is Avian Flu but various options are being investigated. There has been a small team of volunteers to look for Mitch and Harriet. The Birds of Prey team have been amazing with texts and emails to me into the middle of the night and early morning. We will continue to provide updates as received.

HH3 did pass away today and HH4 is still alive but not doing well. There are more questions than answers at this point in time. Please don't speculate and give us the time to find the answers which we will share when available. We will be monitoring the adult eagles as closely as possible. The Birds of Prey Center have brought in specialists from various organizations on this case including the Clemson University Vet School.
