AEF DC Nest first egg :newegg: 3/25
They are almost a month later than last year. Maybe this is a good thing with this crazy weather.

DC Nest - American Eagle Foundation.

We have 2 eaglets at the DC nest. Mr. President (MP) and The First Lady (TFL) began frequenting the National Arboretum in Wash DC in 2014. They built a nest in a tulip poplar tree and had one eaglet in 2015, two in 2016, and two in 2017. This year, there are two again. This nest is in such a beautiful location. DC6 hatched on April 30th and DC7 hatched on May 3rd. Here are some pics from yesterday and today.

The Tulip Poplar Tree. Check out these blooms. They really do look like tulips.
Image

Yesterday 754pm - Dad brought in a headless fish and Mom came into the nest. Here Dad was passing food off to Mom and then she would feed it to the eaglets. :15heartbeat:
Image

Today, 1000am - Older eaglet on the left.
Image

Today, 1008am - Feed going on. Very mild bonking here, but the little one bonks right back. Pretty tough little tyke. You can see here that the old eaglet face planted after a good bonk from the younger sibling, who is getting a nice feed...lol.
Image

Today, 1015am - 3 days old. The younger eaglet in a food coma. Egg tooth visible.

742 pm - Rainy, cool day at the DC nest. The First Lady trying to keep the kids dry and warm. She was fluffing up the nest before I go this pic. Thus the messy beak. Poor Mom...she looks a bit drenched.

This weather this year has taken its toll on a lot of the nests. be it Eagles, falcons osprey and even the Kestrels. Glad it is at least a warm rain.Thank you for the update Nadia :attention:

Still raining along the east coast. It's been on and off rain for a few days now. DC got a little break with the weather mid-day today, but it started raining again tonight and mom came into the nest to cover the eaglets for the night.

1051am - Feed by a soggy looking first lady.
Image

1057am - After the feed.
Image

750pm - Feed this evening with a break in the weather. Mom got a chance to dry out.
Image

803pm - Pin feathers on the R wing-tip of the oldest eaglet.
Image

805pm - Sleepy eaglets post feed. The oldest is on the bottom and tends to bonk the younger one. Bonking is not too bad here, but I notice that the younger eaglet waits until the older sibling gets full before surfacing for a personal feed by Mom. Both eaglets are doing well.

Finally getting around to posting some pics. Sorry for the delay. This was taken last Saturday on June 2nd. I love how the siblings get close at this age.

The next day was pouring rain all day and cool at 60 degrees. Mom was doing her best the entire day to be a "mumbrella" and shelter her babies. The kids were really pushing to get under her.

Sunday, June 3rd at 2pm - a mother's love.

Some pics from yesterday, Sat June 9.

111pm - A look at those wing feathers coming in.
Image

113pm - Both eaglets on a hot and humid morning.
Image

605pm - By late afternoon, very strong thunderstorms came through. The wind was howling and the rain started to pour. The younger eaglet, who was sitting up, decided it was smart to lay low once the wind picked up and placed his/her head on the back of the older sibling...needing the feel of some security during the storm...so touching.
