All going well here. So much more feathered out in just one week.

217 pm - The kids...the one on the bottom is larger with a bigger head and brow ridge - maybe a female.
Image

835 pm - The larger eaglet was perching on the rails this evening. I think the other eaglet on the right is a male with a small round head.

I finally got to see the entire family together. One of the parents brought in a huge fish and was out of out of breath after hauling it to the nest. Both eaglets got stuffed on this feed before bedtime.

737pm - The family and the fish.
Image

745pm - Mom feeding the troops. Younger and smaller eaglet on the right, maybe a male.
Image

753pm - Mom tidied up the nest afterward while the kids rested with full tummies.

Thank you SGB! Here are some pics from last weekend that I didn't get to post. - Sunday June 24th.

417pm - The younger eaglet with wings open to keep cool. I didn't see much food delivered this day and the younger eaglet was repeatedly calling out. Hungry or wanting some attention from a nearby parent?

420 pm - The sibs...younger eaglet on the left.

421 pm - Parent keeping watch.

:loveheart2: Here are pics from today. The eaglets have names! The older eaglet is Victory and the younger eaglet is Valor. Victory tends to be more assertive and aggressive while Valor is more submissive, but very vocal....often calling out when Mom or Dad are in sight. Victory has branched. Valor has not.

1136 am - Both eaglets are self-feeding, but they were having trouble breaking up a catfish head. Both had a go at it, but eventually gave up.
Image

1138 am - It was hot and the kids were following the shade in the nest.
Image

1210 pm - Valor
Image

1216 pm - Victory
Image

1221 pm - Valor (left) and Victory. Valor was calling out....as usual.
Image

118 pm - Food drop-off by a parent. Valor on top has a wing draped over Victory's back. Victory is more aggressive and got the fish, eating most of the tail. Valor eventually snatched it away and was left with the head of yet another catfish, which both kids had trouble with.
Image

235 pm - Another food delivery and this time, the parent did the feed. I don't know this nest well enough to identify this as Mom or Dad, but the parent clearly knew how to unzip this fish, starting with the tough head. The parent made it look easy. Practice makes perfect. Each eaglet got its fair share of food.

A pic from Friday evening, July 6th. Lots of wingercising going on. Victory, the older eaglet loves to perch on the lateral branch while Valor tends to stay on the rails.

7:52pm - Victory on the right showing off those big wings.

Pics from yesterday, Sat July 7th. Victory has been hop flapping from the nest to the lateral branch and back again. I got to see this eaglet do some helicoptering over the nest. Valor is the younger eaglet and is getting in his/her share of wing flaps. Valor remains very vocal....often calling out repeatedly, especially if a parent is visible.

729pm - Valor on the left calling out...as usual. A very vocal youngster.
Image

742pm - Victory on the left settling in for the evening. Valor still being noisy.
Image

813pm - Both eaglets settling down for the night. Valor still awake on the bottom and hoping for a bedtime snack.
Image

815pm - Parent in the nest tree keeping watch for the evening...ignoring Valor's calls.

Today's pic. Victory is 69 days old today and Valor is 66 days old.

250pm - It's hard to make out the eaglets due to the shade of the tree, which has been a blessing during the DC heat. This year, egg laying started late for this family, so temps have been hot at the nest. There was a reprieve from the summer heat this weekend with some cooler, dryer air. Victory is perched on the lateral branch on the right...a favorite perch for this eaglet. Valor is on the rails on the left.

:redface Victory had an accidental fledge today at 73 days of age. She slipped turning around on her favorite perch, the lateral branch. Arboretum staff say she was seem on the ground, but then flew toward the nest. She is probably somewhere in the tree. I love how siblings react :egg16: when a nest mate fledges and Valor did not disappoint us. :teehee: Video courtesy of the American Eagle Foundation.

:penguin: Woo hoo....Victory made it back to the nest yesterday evening, around 6:30 pm. She has resumed her position on her favorite perch - the lateral branch.

1214pm - Parent feeding Valor with Victory (right) on the lateral branch.
Image

1216 pm - View from the other camera. Victory on the far left side of the pic perched on the lateral branch. Valor was very vocal for the short time I watched. Once Valor had a full crop, the parent self-fed while Valor vocalized a continuous stream of chittery sounds. On occasion, Victory would let out a squeeeee, but Valor was the most vocal and always has a lot to say. This eaglet was giving the parent an earful.
Image

1230 pm - Victory (left) came off her perch and joined everyone in the nest.
