I didn't get the beginning of this..but, she was all excited when he arrived..then something spooked her (you can see that at the start)..she is so skittish...they've gotta be careful with that conference room window...

The male returned almost immediately...

I got more info from Chesapeake..

They think (like we do) that a zero or O on top band and an AF on the Green portion. Now I checked PA and NJ band numbers from 2009-2013 (and 2014 for NJ) there are NO AF's anywhere on those reports..2014 PA report isn't out yet, but I really don't think this is a 2014 bird..it would still be in its juvie plumage at this time of year...

Anyway, he was ignoring her when I opened the cam..

April 12, 2015 SONday - EGG #1

7.40 am Bali laid an EGG! I saw both in nest, then I saw her twitching as if in labor - and - EGG!

Well well - NOT in the scrape. Is this a youngster who never nested before?

sky, I've appreciated your notes about her.
We probly all wonder where Barb is, a friendly tree haven or Rainbow Bridge.

That's what Sheperd is calling her until an official name is given.

cat, thank you for replying - yes - she needs a name, this is Baltimore - hence - Bali fits well! :)
I DONT think we shud call her crazy girl! :(

skygirlblue thinks Bali's a 2012 or 2013 hatch...
She sure is pretty!
Bali acts like she has no clue what is happening.

7.40 am Bali laid an EGG! I saw both in nest, then I saw her twitching as if in labor - and - EGG!
Well well - NOT in the scrape. Is this a youngster who never nested before?

8 am male returns to survey her (their?) work in the sunshine. Both peeping
8.20 am Bali tries to eat egg, male flies off, she leaves egg alone
- I have seen her swim in both the near and far corners. She seems spooked by bldg glass
8.45 am Bali rolls the egg toward the doorway - she has no clue what she's doing

You falconistas can tell me how close my guesses are!

11 am That egg is cooking in the sun. boiled eggs wont hatch :(
11.09 egg in shade now
11.12 am I think this is the male who came to his egg. He is so sweet
-----
5 pm Boh brings Bali a bird, which she grabs and eats - outside nest, he leaves
- That egg has been eggsposed 90% of the day or so.
6.40 pm I hope this falcon tends the egg overnite
6.45 pm falcon flew off - egg is alone
- She came back - and stood on the 'curb' facing to our left, head turned toward window. freaky bird.
--------------

April 13, 2015 Monday Shepnotes
6.15 am She was up on the bridge and came down.
- She had rolled the egg toward the wall, lays on it facing outside thru the doorstep.
8.20 am Bali is on bridge and egg is alone in the sun
8.30 am Boh comes - one on bridge, one in near corner of nest peeping
(WHY am I thinking of a football game, each bird on opposite sides)
7.50 am WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!! mating on the bridge!
9 am She has gathered the egg back into the upper left corner again and is pecking around

Well, Del, I posted plenty of screen shots of this nest over on RRP.
I am going to keep calling her Bali - cuz Barb is not here.

I have to wonder if a juvies first year laying is the same as this girl.

I can bet it is female :girlcrazy:
But She has 13 years old, this may be her last breeding season.

That is a sad, accurate post from page 1
I appreciate everyone's ferreting all that info and posting it!
Its hard to post sad info but valuable.
I did not begin to follow this nest until Barb was gone.

Since GSB was the first falcon cam I watched, I naturally compare everything to them.
I wondered if it'd be Michele's last breeding season in 2014 - but she's there this year.

I call this female Bali.
Sky thinks she's a 2012-13 hatch.
I think its this girls first season, so she's NEW, not crazy - lol :egglaugh:
Its a NEW eggsperience for me to watch a first nester.

Shepnotes April 14

I emailed chesapeake today and asked if they know Barb is replaced by a teen ager.

Do any of you know if this nest is completely open - or partly covered?
Apparantly the scrape is in near right corner but the egg is meandering around the far end.

As Spok would say ....

FASCINATING!

She seems to like that spot! I'm not sure if anyone read Dr. Watts update of the Norfolk eagle nest, in it he said that both James and Virginia of the James River falcon box came from Legg Mason. The were siblings and one of the most successful pairs in a Virginia falcon history.

Hi obxbarb!
I heard Dad Norfolk is mated with his daughter and they have chicks! :egg14:
