well, thank you for all reports, videos and pictures. I will never believe neuriological (sp)

Dorothy has done a great job of raising this young falcon as well as E2. My hopes are for a future in flying but if she has to be an educational bird, that is good also.

YOu have done us proud Dorothy.positive thoughts for a good outcome for Silver

Facebook update regarding Silver Tag, by the Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center:

Peregrine Update: The Peregrine Falcon we received yesterday is settling in at our Wildlife Center. Upon initial exam, the bird was found to be dehydrated and thin. There are missing flight feathers, but new feather growth is apparent. In addition, one of the bird's feet is noticeably weaker than the other. The bird has an appointment with a specialty vet on Tuesday & we will pass along any information that is discovered at that time. To be clear, our hope & goal is to rehabilitate the falcon so that it may eventually be returned to the wild. Long term goals, treatments, and plans will be developing as our Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitators work alongside the Veterinarian.

Thank you so much for that update, Antilogical!! That's great news about possible new feather growth, but was surprised to read about dehydration and "thin". guess he didn't self-feed as well as we thought he did...or maybe those days out of cam view, he didn't eat as well as we thought..who knows...

Interesting about the weaker foot. Maybe that's where they initially got the "possible neurological" issue from..

Sounds like they are taking very good care of him and finding the best vets possible!!!

I made a donation in his name (like others) to my local, teeny-weeny rehab center. Like all volunteer organizations, they too are desperate for funds..

thanks for the report antilogical. I think we all knew on e foot was weaker than the other. I think that came form being on her back and brooded that way. But she had come a long way with it, so it was not very noticeable in the box anymore. She is an amazing falocn , thus far. such determination and courage. I was wondering, when i saw where she was , how much feed she was getting.

So glad she is getting good care.

You may recall that during banding, one of the participants mentioned the odd appearance of the hallux/toe. Might be a birth defect, either physical or neurological. We shall see.....

I'M WONDERING ABOUT THE OPPOSITE BEV. POSSIBLY THE WEAKNESS IN THE FOOT KEPT HIM ON HIS BACK AS HE WASN'T ABLE TO UTILIZE IT TO ASSIST IN FLIPPING OVER. I WONDERED ABOUT THE ODD EXTENSION OF THE LEFT LEG IN HIS PHOTO SITTING ON THE WOODEN FLOOR WHEN I SAW IT @ THE REHAB. LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING POSSIBLE ANSWERS TO SOLVE THIS MYSTERY AND ON HIS WELL-BEING AND FUTURE! THANKS ANTILOGICAL!

Thank you for posting the great news, Antilogical! I know we were all hoping (& am sure the PGC & vet were also hoping) that there would be new feather growth so he will eventually be able to live his life as a free falcon. (I would still like to see him & Flash together.) :flirty: I guess its possible that at least one of them will get another peregrine to keep them company while they wait for molt. I guess that foot weakness could be either a cause of or caused by. I'm wondering whether the parasites & anemia could have anything to do with his foot weakness. If its the one we noticed, its on the same side as the problem wing. Judging from the posts I saw on the rehab Facebook page, they will be inundated with donations in Bubba's name.

Currently, Silver Tag is getting hands-on care only by the WLC staff, at least until the vet sees him this week. They monitor and feed him throughout the day. When he is considered to be stable and there is a definite treatment plan, volunteers will be more directly involved.

Animal Care volunteers do give direct care to most critters housed within their assigned areas. In the past, I have had the pleasure of cleaning cages and feeding fledglings from both the Gulf Tower and from the Cathedral of Learning.

UPDATE from facebook...

Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center

Peregrine Update: Wildlife Center staff took the falcon to be examined by Dr. Robert Wagner yesterday evening. A complete physical examination was conducted. The formerly missing primary feathers are almost completely grown, but our licensed rehabilitators & the veterinarian agree that the bird displays neurological deficits. A blood sample was taken to gain insight on these inconsistencies. A test is also being conducted to rule out lead poisoning. Supportive care will continue as the test results are pending. The falcon will continue to be treated by Wildlife Center staff.
