April 13, 2015 - There's a young Red-tailed Hawk hanging out in the park not too far from the nest box that has been keeping Red Girl busy the past couple days. At first I was feeling sorry for the hawk but not after hearing it's coming back for more!!!
Below are a couple emails from Dave:
From this morning...
"The standoff between Red Girl and the Red-tailed Hawk is into the second day. It started yesterday evening before six. The hawk is safe in the trees, but can't leave, (LOL!) and Red Girl keeps an eye on it 100% of the time, scolds it over and over, and has taken five passes this morning, although she can't get close. As of 10:00 am the standoff was still going on."
And from this afternoon...
"A little after 2.30 Ken and I heard Red Girl. She had the hawk cut off from the trees, got under it and drove it up, cutting it off from safe havens. She closed the gap instantly, the RT evaded, she was on it again, it almost evaded, but the hit was glancing.
A couple minutes later she came back and perched, vocalized and took off again after the hawk which was trying to come back. She chased it west again. "

LOL I can almost hear her kakking up a storm!
What a cool sight. Wish there was a video.
Trinity on eggs now. Hatch shd be close.
* I am amazed Trinity will stay so faithfully on the eggs.
He's REALLY gotta want a break! Will she come back for the night?
Trinity is a super hero! 8)
Trinity must have spent all day on those eggs. Did he spend the night there too?
Usually the female does most of the incubating - especially at hatch time.
As it got too dark to see, the male was still on the eggs. Now I await dawn.
