At 10:25 am EDT two peregrines were calling and sparring high over the intersection of 13th and Market Streets. Trinity was on the webcam at 10:35 so I'm assuming that the two I saw were Red Girl and an intruder. One bird (Red Girl?) had sleeker looking plumage and more pointed wings. This bird was the aggressor and chased the other (a juvenile last year?) northeast across the Brandywine River.

Thanks for your report, Greg. It has crossed my mind before that the intruder could be a young one from a previous year. Am seeing Trinity on the eggs right now, looking very relaxed.

Thanks from me too, Greg. I do hope that this intruder is the last that Red Girl and Trinity will need to contend with this nesting season.

When I saw Greg say juvie I wondered if one of this pair's young returned to 'help' with this years brood - or for a free meal. Both have been known to occur - but RARE! :eggroll:

We sure need egg 16 this year! lol

Friday afternoon and Trinity on the Eggs. A nice day, with clouds coming and going. Temps are decent for this time of year.

The white is apparently the result of Trinity losing feathers in a fight with an intruder. Dangerous to be struck there by another falcon, but he seems fine.

April 13, 2015 - There's a young Red-tailed Hawk hanging out in the park not too far from the nest box that has been keeping Red Girl busy the past couple days. At first I was feeling sorry for the hawk but not after hearing it's coming back for more!!!

Below are a couple emails from Dave:

From this morning...
"The standoff between Red Girl and the Red-tailed Hawk is into the second day. It started yesterday evening before six. The hawk is safe in the trees, but can't leave, (LOL!) and Red Girl keeps an eye on it 100% of the time, scolds it over and over, and has taken five passes this morning, although she can't get close. As of 10:00 am the standoff was still going on."

And from this afternoon...
"A little after 2.30 Ken and I heard Red Girl. She had the hawk cut off from the trees, got under it and drove it up, cutting it off from safe havens. She closed the gap instantly, the RT evaded, she was on it again, it almost evaded, but the hit was glancing.
A couple minutes later she came back and perched, vocalized and took off again after the hawk which was trying to come back. She chased it west again. "

-----

LOL I can almost hear her kakking up a storm!
What a cool sight. Wish there was a video.
Trinity on eggs now. Hatch shd be close.

* I am amazed Trinity will stay so faithfully on the eggs.
He's REALLY gotta want a break! Will she come back for the night?

Trinity is a super hero! 8)
Trinity must have spent all day on those eggs. Did he spend the night there too?
Usually the female does most of the incubating - especially at hatch time.
As it got too dark to see, the male was still on the eggs. Now I await dawn.

Thanks for the news, Shepherd. I sure hope that Red Girl is OK after her recent encounters with the hawk and that she made it back to the nest last evening for the incubation night shift. Trinity sure deserves a break - he's such a trooper when it comes to incubating the eggs during the day!
