DC brought food. Only one kid was in the box so I was hoping that would bring the others running. It didn't. After he gave the one in the box a few bites, he went out & started feeding the one outside of the playpen. Now he's gone back into the box & is again feeding the one in there.

Its raining in Rochester now. There was only 1 kid in the box with Beauty when it started, so I thought the other 2 might head in. Instead, the one inside decided to play in the rain! :eggroll:

Now there are 2 inside & Beauty is trying to show the 3rd how to hop up there. OK, now all 3 inside with their mom!

Posted today on the Forum:

So Carol did asked DEC on Friday about the dark wing-pits. They said it's nothing to be concerned about. Most likely that the skin is very transparent at that stage and we're seeing feather structures starting to develop under the skin.

They all had the typical avian lice which they get from prey and does not require any treatment. No other parasites were mentioned.

My question..why are they saying avian lice don't require treatment when I've read it does?

So nobody answered my question yesterday so I'll throw it out again. The Rochester eyases had avian lice and DEC says they don't need to be treated. From what I've found online, they do need to be treated. Anybody know???

Well I"m expert on birds and bugs but from what Tracy told me once they get older like our kids here they can preen themselves, it's the babies that can't cope and I think it depends on the type of bugs like the mites and blood parasites the Penn babies have or had til they got dusted.

SGB knows more about bugs maybe she can help when if she sees this. I wonder if avian lice is like human lice - makes you itchy but doesn't kill you like those other bad bugs? I expect most animals have some form of bugs living on them given they live outdoors and many of them kill other species for their own survival.

I found this about poultry lice and mites, maybe not so different in peregrines...not sure but very interesting information.

Thanks, Carly..I just didn't know but it creeped me out that they had them and didn't get wiped down, dusted, whatever.

maybe the infestation wasn't that bad? More than likely feather lice, which are NOT blood suckers, but can damage feathers if the infestation is large. They are chewers and biters..I'm really surprised they didn't dust for them, though...maybe they felt at their age they could handle the numbers they saw? Poor kids...they're gonna be itchy...

I was surprised when I read they should be dusted if they have these and they did nothing..poor kids is right!

Aren't they cute?

To be honest, I've posted here and nobody really seemed interested so I quit. There's tons of pics and posts on Rfalconcam Forum and the FB page. Kids are doing very well, so far..getting ready for fledging. Genesee is the official Activities Director, leading the way for all new adventures, Cadence is the prima donna..loves daddy to feed her but also very aggressive to self feed and Bronx is such a cutie. He's scared at the least little noise, running for the box for protection but has begun going out on the wall with big brother, Genesee. Fledge Watch started yesterday so we went for a watch last night, seeing all 5! Beauty and DC gave us some nice flying and the kids were wingersizing all over. Hop on over to see all the pics, Bev.

Rochester's facebook page gives nearly a blow by blow account every day of what is going on at the nest! There are many committed people to this site and it shows! So I guess I have been reading their facebook page to find out things. Also, one other thing I have a problem getting their cam and I don't know why.

Bev doesn't do Facebook, so that's not an option for her.

It isn't just here that I feel like I'm talking to myself. I've posted a number of things on BCAW Facebook that I thought would interest people & I didn't get 1 measly "like"! One of those things was when Dorothy's egg hatched & I was the first person to see it (cause I have to get up early to go to work). I posted the news & a capture & didn't get any likes even though that was a big deal! Others posted the same capture after mine & got all kinds of likes & comments. Granted, the way FB displays the posts, the last posts are the ones that display first, but you kinda feel like "why bother"!
