Me thinks these people don't monitor their cams very much :vallaugh:

Tappan Zee Bridge

Valentine's Day romance is in the air — hundreds of feet above the Hudson River.

As scheduled, the peregrine falcons that live on top of the Tappan Zee Bridge have started to arrive home for nesting season.

A view Tuesday from a new camera that monitors the endangered birds showed one falcon sitting inside the "nest," which is a simple, man-made wooden box.

He could be waiting for his longtime mate to show up. Peregrine falcons are generally monogamous creatures, with the male usually the first to return to the same nest or area each year, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. In the spring, two or three chicks are hatched. The nesting season typically runs from February through August.

As part of the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement project, the state Thruway Authority last fall set up a Web camera near the box so the public and experts can watch the daily activities of the birds. (So far, it seems like a lot of sitting and staring.)

Peregrine falcons enjoys high places like bridges because they provide clear views to hunt smaller birds.

Experts want to watch the birds before they relocate the box to the new Tappan Zee in the coming years. The moving process — which will cost $100,000 — includes monitoring nesting activity, making sure construction doesn't disturb the birds, building a new nest and finding a suitable location on one of the new towers. The existing bridge will be torn down in 2017.

The live camera can be viewed at

Yup, I think you're right Kitten! Think somebody should let them know that their peregrine pair didn't migrate & that we've gotten pictures of them all Winter? :teehee:
