Great catch, Mike!!! I bet its a NYC bird as well..

PA and VA use B/g as well...but, don't think this bird is from there...wrong federal band color..

I sure wish every body would submit to the data base...sure would make this a lot easier to track down...

41/AX B/G is the new female here

Jersey City Falcon Cam
2015 Jersey City Falcon Cam
First Update of the Season

Exciting news! A new falcon was re-sighted inside the nestbox on the 41st floor of 101 Hudson St.! It looks like a female by the color of the flesh on here cere and feet (females are usually more drab than males).
Welcome to the 2015 Peregrine Falcon nesting season in New Jersey!
The high definition camera atop 101 Hudson St. has been activated. This is the 15th season for the falcon cam! Hard to believe it's been online for so long and almost the whole time this nest has been home to one of the oldest known (at least as far as we knew) falcons in New Jersey. This year the old nesting female would have been 20 years old!

If you would have asked us a few days ago, we would have voiced our concerns about this nesting season. Since we activated the camera we saw little activity in and around the nestbox. But, falcons have been seen perched on the building and in and around the nestbox more and more over the past few days.

Hope is renewed! Just yesterday, long time Falcon Cam viewer Mike Girone got a few photos from the cam which showed a falcon that we have never seen before. This new bird looks like a female (by the lighter colored flesh on her cere (fleshy part of her bill) and her feet). Luckily she wears a bi-color auxiliary band (unlike the former female of the site, who only had a USGS band and was unreadable) we'll be able to ID her in the coming days! Then we'll learn how old she is and where she originated from. Right now we at least know that she is not a NJ bird. Jersey falcons wear a black USGS band and a bi-color auxiliary band.

Right now we're not quite sure if there will be a brood of falcon young this year. The pair are likely strengthening their pair bonds where the male performs courtship displays and provides food for the female. Speaking of the male (2/6), we're still waiting to see him on the camera to be sure he is still the mate at this nest. So, right now it's a waiting game to see what plays out.

If you see either bird at the nest site, especially the male - 2/6, we'd appreciate it if you let us know by emailing a screen shot of the banded bird to Ben Wurst.

I heard back from the BBL and 41/AX also a 2012 NY bird. They didn't give nest location or type, but since the numbers are close it could be the same spot you have (or nearby). Hopefully we'll find that out from the NY bander.

I didn't get pics, but both birds were on the roof a few minutes ago. 41/AX arrived first, then the male landed on the wall and jumped down to the roof. He went under the box while the female was closeby (I saw this on Tuesday as well). He came out from under the box and flew off. She briefly went into the box and did some scraping near the interior cam.

Pretty interesting how it's 41/AX that's trying to get the male into the box. Maybe it's Six and he's a little unsure of the newcomer? Hopefully he goes in the box soon so we can see what's what.

great to see some activity at the scrape but I think there should be some kind of homage to Athena at the site.

Great shots Beth! And now it looks like we've got an unbanded male here. Completely new pair, wow.

Excited about the future with the new comers, but very sad that Athena and Six are gone. They were the 1st Peregrines I saw and turned me into a falcoholic. I am thankful for all the years getting to watch them and interact directly with them and their offspring.

I agree Zev and it looks like we have to add Six to it.

Mind is spinning a bit, I'll figure out something to say about them (without it turning into a novel). Maybe we can create something (new thread?) where we can all post pics and memories?

Mike...we actually have a spot on this forum to honor the legends....I'm afraid we've kinda fallen behind in our tributes to some of the greats...but, if you would like to post something here to honor Athena and Six, then please let me know.

ya know...I have to wonder if Athena and Six are somewhere else together..I remember, years ago at the Cobb nest, (Before Eve and Mitchell..and before the GHO who stole their nest this year..boo), the "Cobb Cuties" (that's what we called them) both disappeared...they were eventually found and were nesting at another old hack site on the Island...I'm sure Athena and Six, as well as the Cobb pair, wouldn't have given up their nest without protest..sooooooooooo...just dreaming here..LOL
