I see Trinity on the eggs this morning. Don't like to read and hear what has been going on. Haven't had any time to get down town these days.

WELCOME DAVID!!!

Looks like Red Girl on the eggs right now. Hope she and Trinity don't have to ward off any intruders today or any day for that matter.

David - That's awful news about the intruder yesterday. I hope that by now Red Girl and Trinity have escorted the intruder out of their territory, never to come back.

BTW - I've been meaning to ask you about your avatar. Is it one of the cute Wilmington fledglings from last year?

Yes, Catbird, my avatar is Blue Boy being released on the roof of BB. He fledged to ground, was rescued and sent to Tri-State Bird Rescue for a checkup rode back and took the elevator to the roof. That surrealistic journey is why he can't quite pull off the bad mean falcon look in the picture. I had the honor of going on his release, so he has a special place, you know? He indoctrinated me into the falcon cult, and now I'm stuck there. Happily.

There has been no intruder yet today. Red Girl has been on watch on the Citi sign, a high and dominant perch. She left for a while, but came back with lunch. She should be in the box soon with a full crop.

I'll be keeping an eye out.

David - Thanks for the good news about no intruders today! And thanks for the background on your avatar, Blue Boy, from last year. He's darling!

Faith and I had a similar experience in 2012. Faith had the honor of picking up White Band from Tri-State, and we both were on the roof when she was released. It's something neither one of us will forget.

FYI - I just searched the archives and found the pictures and posts related to White Band's release. They start on this page: viewtopic.php?f=427&t=1287&start=40.

Thanks for your report, Dave. Glad there were no intruders today. Love your story about your avatar Blue Boy. I can understand why he is special to you, just as Red Girl is special to those of us in Harrisburg. When she was first learning to fly in 2008, she wound up on the sidewalk by my feet. I didn't have a chance to try to catch her, as she pranced right across the street and was then captured by a friend of mine. Will never forget the up close and personal looks at her in the rescue box. My avatar is Red Girl's awesome mother.

Shepnotes
Wilmington Falcons - facebook notes
Intruder March 30-31
- likely after food stash, male or female uncertain
https://www.facebook.com/wilmfalcons

March 30 at 3:04pm ·
We had an intruder earlier today! Hopefully he/she has moved on!
Dave reported he saw 2 male falcons, one chasing the other.

March 31 at 1:15pm ·
Dave went to the roof and saw a big falcon patrolling - heard a series of eechups from the nest box. ''Trinity came out of the box and cried from the shelf, but no response. Trinity went back in.
Then a falcon flew up and landed on the big antenna on your building, more calling, different, like a "barking" eechup. No response from the falcon on the antenna. Then Trinity came out of the nest box and flew to the food cache! Aha, I said, hunting is bad and they are hungry. Then 2 falcons emerged from the food stash, Red Girl flew to the antenna and rousted the intruder, both gave chase for a few seconds, then Trinity bolted back to the nest box.
Red Girl chased and caught the intruder some distance to the northeast, made a pass but didn't seem to hit, then both disappeared into the distance. While I was looking that way Trinity made noise, departed the nest box, and sped toward WSFS. I didn't see his return, but he did come back.
There was nobody in sight when I left, but Trinity was in the box.”

From close to 5:00….
“Went back on the roof to find Red Girl on the antenna and the intruder circling at maybe 1000' The intruder's circles started to descend toward the nest box and Red Girl took off and chased him and she was getting close. When they were in the vicinity of the nest box Trinity came out and 3 falcons were in chase. Near the end of the chase Red Girl returned to the nest box. Trinity continued pursuit. Rain ended my vigil.
Changing my probably a male to unknown. Looked like a big bird when it got close to the familiar reference points of the nest box.”

catbird - Lovely wings pic! I love wings!

There was an intruder falcon again. Chases ensued and a fierce battle occurred in the sky over Jefferson / Madison St. shortly after two o'clock. Both falcons involved in battling the intruder, and off the nest for fifteen minutes. Trinity is on the nest now, but very restless. I don't know the result of the battle, and I am still looking for Red Girl or the intruder.

Thanks for your report, Dave. This is NOT what any of us want to be reading. Am checking the cam and see Trinity on the eggs. He's facing so he can see out.

No, not after what happened in Baltimore. There are five eggs that need to be taken care of, I hope Red Girl is okay!

Not sure when she left, but the eggs are unattended right now. Don't think for very long, though. Sure wish Wilmington was closer. And now Trinity is there.

About a second before you looked. She looked outside the box, got up from the eggs, and took off.

And now Trinity is there, judging by the scuffed head.
