Thanks Bev...I usually agree with Gord...but, not this time...It just reminds me of what happened in Wilmington several years ago..I can't remember which chick (or maybe there were two) grounded simply because they were new fledges...and they shipped them off to a hack site...everybody, including Kim was SO UPSET...it caused quite the uproar and a near mutiny!!

yes, I remember that. But I think it depends on the hack situation. I know we are not perfect here, but our

hack site is so great, Lots of prey, very well monitored and we have been lucky this last two years to have a falcon pair out there that also takes care of them.

Gord has worked and loved falcons since he was a teenager. He has such a passion for them. We are very lucky. He always puts the interests of the falcons first. When he stops doing that , that is when I retire. I was so dubious the first time he did this 2 years ago. Till we went out there. I shared the pictures with all of you. It was so fabulous to see these young juveniles flying at will, with nothing but nature to worry about. NO roads , no buildings, no glass. They could land in trees, or on the cliffs or rocks along the hills. Could predators get them . O f course, but then it is nature. and there is food for them twice a day , till they learn to hunt and quit coming to hack box. We saw them do the same things they do with the adults.

some hack just for the sake of hacking. this program is being successful. and our falconer that monitors them, has such a love for them also.

In my heart, I hate to give up a youngster, bu t I would never forgive myself, if I asked to keep it and it hit a window. I do understand your feelings. I struggled with it at first.

this will not always happen, . this may be the last year.

Thanks Bev...I've never doubted Gord's passion and expertise...I just disagree this time...I could understand it if blue had grounded numerous times due to collisions...

I'm sure Blue has a better chance at Pembina..at least I hope so..

there is a nice big roof behind there that thy play on. Peter saw them hop flying from roof to ledge yesterday.

I will take a look there on my way down to U of A this afternoon.

oldest is 41 days youngest is 40 days. Technically they were born same day but one is always behind .

so capable of flight today, if not already.

yellow fledged sometime between 7:08pm and 9:00pm. We have him located and will check at first light tomorrow before Peter heads to U of A. thanks to my friend for noticing he was not being fed and then going back to last time seen. At that point we sent someone down and he should be fine, where he is. I expect him back up to roof by end of tomorrow.( if he does what he should)

I will try and run down there also but have double shift

yes, Peter checked on him at 5:30 this morning and he was still where he ws when he fledged and black laing on ledge of Weber

so now that Yellow has flown from where he fledged to , to back to roof, he should be good.

hopefully black waits a few more days

thanks SGb for posting pictures. I am late and must go

Peter went to check Weber this morning. The girl was found on the top of the parkade facing the aisle. Peter went to get her and she fly off, well. But, he lost sight of her and went looking , without any luck. Bev or Peter will check again

. No worries
