today is last official day of our watch

yesterday there were was heart stopping moments. White bounced off Maz a few times with Talons. Trishes picture shows him looking at his reflection, so we think that is what may have happened/ thank goodness he touched with talons . Trish may post some photos .

The boys were stooping pigeons like crazy . Barb and I were holding our breath, as they came so close to buildings. But watching them perform maneuvers in open clear sky was amazing. they were refuter away so no pictures. I think Depends may be on list next year of things to bring ot watch LOL

Chase kept creating havoc. He is so crazy, and when he is fling with kids it is so quick , we are afraid he will knock them not windows or walls.
When we have females he seems more careful.

It is raining right now and we are hoping it clears for last day. Peter is down there now with Janice and have only seen one kid an no adults so far. probable staying dry somewhere. When I see how early they leave at Genesee , even though Peter is there at 5 Am , he may miss them.

So hopefully they will perform for those coming out today.

After today we just go and enjoy. fanof green is to send me pictures of yesterday morning. If she does I will post here.

I cannot remember if I posted picture Dr Gordon court at banding of E4

isn't she gorgeous. She had just caught a coot. She was born in 2002. And she is not in rough shape. She was in top form at banding. LOL

Just a real good female , she is ornery but in great shape. and had 3 gorgeous chicks . So we know they are at Bell as you saw by videos but cam seems to be completely down so I will update if Peter and I see anything this week.

Peter and i were downtown yesterday. we saw 3 falcons at Bell . One has to be a kid. small photos will be posted later. If the big part of cam was working we would have already known for sure who was at box ,as there has been daily activity there, in small insert. My friend has been wrecking her eyes trying to piece things together, yesterday her videos showed some rather strange behavior, but cams have never been working at this time here so is it weird or not???? sometimes what is happening just as season ends is as important as season itself.

here are pictures. we do scope to make sure of what we have but unfortunately my camera does not attach to my scope. In my nest life

this is side of nest box. east side

falcon was on perch inside and then a bit after other 2 birds left we heard chupping and there it was ( I was on phone to my friend so I knew it was on perch inside while other 2 were there)

north side of bell where 2 flew in . could hear them so looked up . one is adult and one is juvenile. picture looks more adult like because of sun but when scoped it was a juvenile. all 3 had to belong together as one on est side would have not allowed this without getting up to see what was going on. We think one on east is femlae adult and one on north side is male adult( one with white chest). It was very hot and bright out. the bright sun at all sites made ID harder as kids got older. good thing we had color tapes at 2 sites
number 1 is male and number 2 is kid

So one will be E4 as we have confirmed her around and hope one is red

final fledge report

I would like to thank all the volunteers that came out this year. We had some new faces mixed with our faithful friends from other years. I was pleased to see the young people come also ,as we need youth to keep this watch going.

I believe everyone saw something exciting this year, from food exchanges to fancy, heart stopping flying:stooping of pigeons, rescues of Blue girl , green in tree overnight, blue in tree, What is up with trees this year.

It was gruelling at times with the intense heat and then then the storms. But we made it.

I am grateful to all those that came if we called , when we were short; Jean offering us her apartment if we lost sight of a bird or two. Those that came in the early morning to keep Peter company or to give him a break.

The thoughtfulness of everyone was just so awesome. no one wanting to let us down. And I mean everyone

I call this year a success. NO lives lost ( touch wood). I felt bad Blue girl could not keep her footing. I know some do not understand our process of hacking but that is O.K. We can have varying opinions. But I trust the peregrine man.
Our urban birds are in trap , so to speak. the high buildings, the glass, the streets. There is no room for error. But for the most part, they are able to make those mistakes at the Pembiina.
I know there was an article about a falcon from Pembina found in Entwistle but that is right behind the hacking area. And there were storms and some birds got extremely wet. There is more to hacking than the article let on.
We all experienced our blue girl , last year after sitting in rain all day, she floated to parkade. We took her home, she dried out and she flew high for rest of year. These things happen

But we are smilling.

Jean sees all 4 every day.
So my friends, we will continue to monitor until they are out of area. See you at my place AUgust22 for our wind up.

thank you again :5val:

I have some of our photos to post yet which I will probably do in a slideshow in next few days. :1val:

U of A

this really touched my heart this year. Radisson has always been a tough love mom but when Green ended up in the spruce tree in pouring night overnight and part of next day. Radisson kept going to tree by him and stayed. She showed him the way out several times and when he was ready* thank goodness he dried out) he did exactly as she asked. :5val: :5val: . you can see she was wet also

and Green

Nice to see Chase and Radisson bonding. And all of the pictures are wonderful to see and the nice report too. I almost cried when I read what you wrote about Radisson and saw her in the tree there with Green Boy. What a good mom she is. I wish that I could have seen Blue Girl one last time, but maybe she will show up on a cam one day. I hope so. Thanks to all of you who go and do what needs to be done to help keep these birds safe.

Playing catch up here!! Loving ALL the pics...and it was really good to see E4!! So happy to know there were 3 kids...hopefully Red was a part of all of that. Big thank you to the person who kept watch there.

Maybe I have very poor short term memory, but it seemed this year had more excitement built into the watch...it certainly was great to have more eyes watching and helping out.

Really hard to believe that Falcon season in the northern hemisphere is over!! Where did the months go!!

A huge thank you to Bev and Peter, the anchors for the Edmonton PeFas, and ALL the watcher who came out to help and make sure the kids were safe!! I would list you all, but I'm afraid I would leave somebody out!!

Please take pics at the Wrap up party!!

I love the picture of Radisson in the tree with Green. Well, truth be told, I love all of the pictures, but the softer side of Radisson is delightful to see. :)

Thanks again to Bev and Peter for organizing another wonderful Fledge Watch and everyone else involved. Despite still not seeing one of the beauties fledge, I loved every moment of the watch, including meeting all of the new people who were bitten by the Fledge Watch bug!! :loveshow:

Got to work this morning, turned on my computer and opened up a tab for the U of A nest cam. Was busy on another tab when I heard the unholy din of a hungry juvenile. I clicked the tab and who should I see come for a visit, but Green!!
