I don't know kittenface. Wonder if that's it on the left roof. Could a crow or other large black bird have tried to take it and dropped from a low position? I searched their FB, but there is very, very, little info on this nest recently ... same as here.

April 21 only 3 eggs - what happened to egg 4?
Chesapeake Conservancy
Hi everyone, we were closed for Good Friday and had an event on Thursday, sorry to have missed the chatter here. We’re confident a human did not move the egg.

April 19 at 7:23pm 3 eggs
19 April hail must have broken one egg and Barb removed it from nest

March 22 there was a hail storm. I was watching live and Barb was off when it began

I put a pic on RRP - actually I see the egg in kitten's pic off to the left.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Thanks for the information Shepherd,
I haven't really watched since all eggs were laid, so just wasn't sure.

When I checked Explore, the 1st time the egg was noticed missing was on 4/18/19 and the 1st time the egg that is on the left roof was noticed is dawn that same morning of 4/18/19, from what I could tell. The following are the 2 comments from chat on Explore noting these events:

4/18/19 about 9:40 a.m. Shift change. Barb out; Boh in. I see only 3 eggs.

And, I'm not sure what that object is to the left of the nest. It looks like a partial egg? It's been there since dawn.

Someone else on chat asked or suggested if a human could have moved the egg. And I think this is why the only comment from Chesapeake Conservancy that I could find made on this event ... was worded in the following manner:

Chesapeake Conservancy • a day ago
Hi everyone, we were closed for Good Friday and had an event on Thursday, sorry to have missed the chatter here. We’re confident a human did not move the egg.

It was also noted on their chat that Barb has made several trips over to check out the lone egg on the left side of the roof across the barrier from the nest. This egg can be seen in kittenface's pic above. It is sad that 1 of the 4 eggs is lost to unknown causes. But, some good news is:

PIP WATCH BEGINS NOW ON 4/22/19!! :5val:

Have been in a three times this morning. The eggs were alone the first time I went in and I did not think anything of it. I did not see any signs of a pip, although I don't know that I would see early signs of such with the distance here. When I came back the second time and didn't see Boh around, I started scanning the DVR and could not see him in her absence. And on the third trip in, it is the same. So, nobody has been here for over 1 1/2 hours. I am not worried about eggs other than their vulnerability to intruders at this point, but I sure hope Boh is okay, just surprised he did not come in to cover for her. Then on my fourth time in ... I noticed someone under the ledge on the left who looks small and has been there actually for almost an hour and wonder if this is Boh and I have worried about him unnecessarily. :15heartbeat:

I guess we are on pip watch later this week
7.20 am Eggs have been alone for at least 15 minutes
Barb is a good mom. Her first year everyone called her crazy girl.
Now I remember that with affection and humor, she is odd.
8.30 She is back on eggs - she was off over an hour
Boh was on guard on the outside of that bridge

:egg16: He is standing behind the eggs and keeps looking at the skies above him. I hope everything is okay. He does not seem to be alarmed or on high alert though ...

I am starting to get worried. She has been gone about 3 1/2 hours and he did incubate for about an hour and fifteen minutes of that period. Otherwise, he has not been doing well with incubation today. He continues to watch the skies and has vocalized at times. I hope Barb is not dealing with an intruder. It will be getting dark here soon.

Oh no! Barb has not returned and a few minutes ago, Boh went to perch on the upper ledge near the opening and nobody is on the eggs. I am concerned for Barb and the eggs!!

He is still perched there as I leave. Low to be 58F tonight. I sure hope Barb is okay and the eggs make it. Maybe, he will incubate shortly.

Checked Explore chat and someone said at 8:53, Boh left the ledge and headed toward the eggs. All we can do is hope that he is incubating tonight. I really hope Barb is okay...

Dawn revealed Barb on the eggs! Do not know when she returned, but the DVR reveals activity through the night at the doorway, otherwise it was pitch black.

3.30 am I saw a falcon come into nest thru the door and head to eggs.
Its DARK and no IR so I was amazed to see activity!

5.30 am I see the outline of Barb in doorway - still too dark to see anything else
She is cherishing her freedom before 3 hungry kids will want 24/7 attention!

5.45 am FFD = First Fingers of Dawn tint skyline, and falcon heads to eggs
6 am I can now see Barb on her eggs with Bo on guard on the other side of the bridge.
5.15 Lots of turning and scrunching as she helps her babies hatch

7.15 am No one on eggs and I think they are hatching
7.35 Barb is back - I am not catching exact times - too busy

Its warm, eggs will be fine.
I have seen falcons remove a non viable egg from the nest - or push it off to the side. This year I am seeing falcons delay laying compared to that birds previous year. One falcon has lost 2 mates and is now trooping on feeding 4 chicks. Instictively they know how to delay hatch by not incubating.
