They are looking a tad bit pitiful. I saw the men getting them out of the nest earlier.

They were quite frightened; I watched them for a while after they went back to the nest and one was panting, I presume from fright. Big Sis Ariane obviously hadn't told them about that :egg13:

The parent kept looking around like it was going to get caught or something.

Alice and Virgilio's two chicks were ringed today. The details are:

NABIL: Orange ring CJ 2116
Weight: 825 gm
Wing: 169 mm

SCHEGGIA: Blue ring CJ 2117
Weight: 555 gm
Wing: 132 mm

They're thought to be a male and a female.

As you can see by the size of these chicks, and particularly Nabil, they seem to be very well fed :egg7:

Parent was feeding chicks, then left. Parent comes back with more prey, just not sure if it is the same parent. That 2nd one always looks as though it is on the lookout for something.
Nabil looks pretty big compared to it, so maybe the dad.
They were sure glad to get more to eat.

If Nabil is female, which seems likely, she may well have got her size from her mother, who is enormous :egg6:

It's been very hot in Italy in the last few days. After the particular weather conditions in Rome earlier with so much rain and wind, there were a lot of comments about creating some sort of protection for the birds in this nest. Recently, this has been taken up by Giac, one of the 'leaders' of the Italian forum, who is also responsible for ringing the chicks and it seems likely that an attempt will be made to put up some sort of shelter so that the birds have a little more protection from both rain and also sun! :egg 19:

The one in the nest hopped and played, jumped on the perch, etc while the other watched.

I thought that I saw their older sister at the nest today leaving prey in the box but not sure. She jumped up on the edge of the box and poof, gone. It was only then that it occurred to me that it might have been her.
