I just received this reply from Greg :sorrow: Godpeed Hoffman

"Hi Gigi,

Hoffmann was likely displaced sometime during the first week of June. The new male at UWM - "Lightning" (b/r) 84/R is actually the male from the Milwaukee County Power Plant (MCPP) nest site. He fathered 3 young there this season and then moved to the UWM site and is caring for the young there as if they were his own. His mate is alone back at MCPP caring for the 3 young she produced with Lightning.

Interestingly Hoffmann's carcass was found this week on the roof of a UWM building so he may have been killed in a territorial battle."

:thankyou :thankyou :sigh Thankyou so much, SGB and Gigi for all the head scratching, email sending, and note checking you did to figure this out! You are awesome!
However, I am so saddened by all of this - First, at the loss of faithful, handsome :sorrow: Hoffman :sorrow: (I always thought of him as the Mitchell of the North) Rest in peace, dear Hoffman....
And then, by the difficult circumstances handed to Tahoe, the mighty tom-girl falcon, who has been raising her babies by herself, and then may face a challenge from a returning Madam X later this year... I can only say - Tahoe, I am with you, girl! Come back to Ohio - the winters are usually milder here anyway....

Thanks so much, gigi, for sharing Greg's response..I got a very similar one..did you respond? (I haven't yet..)

So very sad about Hoffman!!! :tissue: and equally sad to hear that Tahoe at Milwaukee is alone..This just doesn't make sense to me...why would Lightning just leave Milwaukee unless he was run out.

Yes, I thanked Greg for the information and also noted that there must be some allure at this nest that keeps peregrines coming and trying to take over.

Well, just can't let this go (I really need to get a life)...If I have my locations correct, it is less than 10 miles between WE Milwaukee and Biosci....could he be servicing both sites? and why would he?

gigi, thank you so much for getting the information from Greg, it is a sad day indeed. I sure am hoping only good for sweet Tahoe. She has proven herself to be a great momma for sure.
RIP handsome Hoffman you were one of the great ones in my eyes also. :cryinggirl:

:egg8: I never catch anyone on the cam, here, but I do have a question about what the archives for the 7am and 9am hours show. 7:00 shows, I think the female, looking big and beautiful... The 9:00 shows another falcon, smaller, looking disheveled, I assume molting. So is that Lightning, exhausted from flying back and forth between nests? :egg21:

:egg19: Just saw Lightning (it had bands) in the midst of a major scraping session. He and his Mrs. seem to like to check on the box between 12:00 and 2:00 pm each day. Sometimes they are both there....

Not sure if that is Lightning, (from Milwaukee County) but I'm thinking no bands is the Female that has been here.
Lightning had come here & probably killed Hoffmann this season then helped no bands raise the little ones. Also helped a while at Milwaukee County, but left soon after chicks hatched so Momma Tahoe took care of them & did a heck of a good job all 3 fledged and there hasn't been any reports about any of them hurt or deceased.
Tahoe has proven herself to be ONE FINE FALCON
