Well he is behaving exactly like falcons do when they are overheated, we see this at nests when the sun is right in the box as it is now on really hot humid days. Humidity is 82% in the air there today so can imagine how hot it might be on a power plant. No cross-air ventilation in box perhaps?
There is a nice spring chill in the air this morning. I was out earlier checking my bird feeders........ But you are right it's probably very hot up there. His eyes look so bright and clear............
I agree Sally, other than the overheating behaviour - they both look fine on the outside. Clear eyes, no dilation of pupils, no runny eyes, feathers look good, preening observed, they are flying well, etc. If they are 'sick' then they are the healthiest looking sick birds I've ever seen - on the outside at least. Don't know what's going on inside them though.
Heat rises and the temperatures at that elevation can be upwards of 20 degrees higher than down at our level. Add to that the box is on a plant wall...who knows what it's like in there unless you stick a thermometer up there and monitored it. Plus the sun is right on the box now.
I have to get going for a bit but will be checking in today. I wish someone with authority there could get to the bottom of the problem and do something but like you mentioned above there is a lot to be considered if that were to happen.........
