WOW...thanks for the vid, Carolyn....so, does that mean we are down to 2 eggs here?

Shepherd, if an egg is cracked/broken its not unusual for an adult to eat the egg/contents of the egg. Its a good source of nutrients for them..

I guess the bigger and more important question is why are the eggs breaking? Is it the lack of gravel or is something wrong with the shells themselves that is causing them to be brittle? Several years ago, all five of Harriet's (Richmond, VA) eggs fell apart right before hatch. They didn't appear to be fertile..but hard to tell..but she ate them all...in her case, it wasn't a lack of gravel..

Gosh, I sure hope the remaining eggs survive!!

I believe the the sub species, anatum, has the orangy color to them..

Poor sweet dear, she is trying everything she can to get that egg rolling. I am honestly surprised the other 2 are gone yet. That box needs so much more gravel.
Well she started to eat the egg

SUMMARY
May 1, 2016
Sonday shepnotes
I dont watch this cam daily, I just click in once in awhile.
She had 4 eggs April 12
April 30 when I clicked in she had only 3 eggs and one was damaged, cracking
Now she has 2 eggs
lack of gravel in that box
Is there something in the environment - again?

''Over a 7 year period, only 2 chicks survived to the age of fledging. ''

We should be on hatch watch here...fingers crossed...I just don't know...I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic, but these eggs have had it rough...

Well I got this Thursday May 5th, I got so excited when I got this. I heard something, then remembered that there are birds out there chirping. It was so faint and small sounding, but I know in my heart that it was just a bird.

Thanks for the pic, KF...I got a similar one at 7:11 pm (eastern time)..

I'm on my way out the door...back this evening..

Mom is on the nest tonight...and she is acting so strange...in a kind of funny way...I'm not even sure I can describe it..LOL

even with 2 eggs, she still can't cover them..poor dear...I think I may be writing these people at the end of the season...and encourage them to add more gravel for next year...

She is very jumpy/jerking at times is the only way I can describe it. restless leg syndrome :teehee:
They do need a lot more gravel those eggs are on that bare wood. I'm still hoping for that miracle to happen.

Not hearing a chick, right now..only very loud music!!

I haven't seen the eggs yet...so, hoping there is at least 1 hatch here..

I don't think she is weird at all...I think the box is weird and she certainly has had a tough time with the lack of gravel. I just have to wonder if this is her first clutch...I haven't really seen any info about the birds here, but she is so striking..I would think she would be a very easy ID if she nested here last year..Apparently this box has been successful in the past...but, with which birds? LOL

Oh...and she's doing the leg thing again!!!

Oh I hope everything goes OK here, I haven't seen any sign of a pip yet but I'm staying up as long as possible.

I really hope the egg hatched, the way she is rolling it around its going to be so dizzy. But serious I hope it being on bare wood doesn't harm it it is really getting a work out she won't stop rolling them for more than 30 seconds. Maybe she is just trying to help it along.
Well out for the night hope someone looks in the morning & finds a good pip or even better a chick.
