Changing of the guard. I was looking at the eggs so closely, that I missed getting a picture.
Eggs look intact. Hard to see because of the sunlight (and my wishful thinking-eyeballs).

Added: Maybe it wasn't a changing of the guard. The parent on the nest now is panting; maybe what I saw was just a check-in.

Heat wave starting again, expected to be stinking hot all week. I don't think they're going to have a hatch now, I was hoping but her eggs hatch out on day 31 every year and we're past that now - it's day 37 after 3rd egg now. She's just standing above them now. She's not listening to them or showing any pre-hatch behaviour. :egg15: :egg15: :egg15:

I guess this will be a failed year, they can rest up and hopefully next year will be better.

:girlsad3: Thanks, Carly. What a shame.

Day 34 for egg #4 (if we have that lay date correct)...and while its still possible, that window is closing for a hatch for that egg. The only reason I haven't totally given up is because of how late Dinan hatched at Lincoln. If he was egg #5, he hatched on day 35.

I hate to say it, but I'm not sure I want a hatch..with the heat that is coming, that can be deadly for a newborn!!

Parent on eggs is fidgety and looks uncomfortable - lots of panting (in the sun) this morning.

Me too Sally. Hopefully next year will better for them. We had failed nests and lower hatch rates at several nests up here this year too - cold spring, territorial disputes, etc. The good news is they are both healthy and strong :)

Posted on Peregrine Place that at 40 days of incubation, if no hatch, the eggs will be removed and checked. Sad for them..

Thanks from me too, Kris...did anyone ever hear if any eggs were fertile from the first clutch? Maybe they can candle these..might give a quick answer..

I'm so glad they will be taking them (sad we won't have any chicks)...they'll be able to move on and enjoy being falcons...to think that Dixie laid 9 eggs this season...poor dear!!!

My thoughts are the same as yours for poor Dixie! Boy the two of them have been so attentive in their brooding for both clutches. So very sad for them........... :girlsad3:

She laid her third egg on May 28th Bev and the last on May 30th, way past due now.

Her history shows almost all her eggs hatch out on Day 31 (from egg 3, start of incubation) - every year since she came here.

Hi! The dates I wrote down are 5-25, 5-27, 5-29, 6-1. Now I know why my day counts never matched. I wonder where my dates came from? Getting Old! :girlcrazy:
