Is that a bare skin patch on the belly?
Is that normal?

I have had no cam time as of late but am glad to see the updates :leafthumbs:

4:38pm oct28

feed going on. kids facing the cam ( it keeps freezing). i is now over at 4:43pm so do not know how long it lasted

( another way to tell male from females , is look at their feet, that is what our biologist does, and he is known as the peregrine man)
4:43pm -and a wee bit more , it is stuck in its mouth,

Diamond is watchful at the perch

those pin feathers are really coming in now now.

4:47pm- diamond leaves and one is watching out the door. ( she looks closer to door on ledge cam than nest cam
( nice wing flaps)

there are no worries with the new male. :15heartbeat: If you have watched sites where there has been a new male so late into process, his actions are normal. Some will do a bit of feeding after awhile , but not always. He is doing just fine. The most important thing is that he is protecting. And there is no doubt in my mind , that he is helping hunt, but she can bring in bigger prey.

Feast and famine
Published 28 October, 2016 | By Cilla Kinross
This morning the chicks got 4 feeds in 2 hours, followed by a long absence of 5 hours, with the chicks flapping about, a bit too close to the ledge for my liking

It was very warm here today and last night and there are showers and storms forecast for the weekend, particularly Sunday.

Great video, Arjen! I thought Xavier was going to line up with the kids! The way he was hopping around, he sure did look excited! Thank YOU!

Xavier leapfrogs the chicks

I’ve been re-reading about sexing Aussie peregrines. A methodology has been developed at earlier stage than normal so that a safer banding can be undertaken (less likely to jump). Sexes cannot be determined when the wing is less than 9 cm (about 15 days after hatching), but by taking measurements of body mass, tarsus lenth, head-bill length and tip-cere length (NB not wing lenghth, sex can be determined quite accurately after that (Hurley et al 2007, A morphological model for sexing nestling peregrine falcons….verified through genetic analysis). Interesting reading.

He’s a complete nutcase!!! Thanks for the video. I’ve just been watching the chicks on the night-view cam – is this a particularly bad year for mozzies out your way, after all the rain? I’m surprised they’re up so high – and they seem to make the chicks twitchy. I don’t remember them being an issue last year.
