Thanks Arles...

this makes no sense. They are too young to fledge...maybe they have hopped down on that lower ledge and the outside cam does not refresh enough to catch them walking by like we've seen in the past.

Yes, we are missing a lot SGB.
Cam is sometimes refreshing every 2 minures instead of
20 sec.

One juvie returned at 11.05AM camtime
One on the ledge and one laying down in the right corner.

I agree, Arles...we are missing so much and the cams are out of sync...I think there could be 3 up there, ..I wish I had control of the cam. I'd briefly angle the ledge cam down into the box and get a head count!!

I couldn't begin to tell you how many chicks are in these pics. there is definitely a blind spot in the far right corner.

:loveheart: Two on the ledge just now... It seems to me that the cams are a little more in sync than it appeared. The time for the ledge is way behind, but the picture is nearly real time....

After spending 2 hours of watching from observation deck of the monument, we think we may know where #3 is. We only thought we saw 2 at a time on the perch or one up and one in the box. About 3:30 both parents made their presence known flying wildly above Market Tower. It did not seem to be a food transfer, just flying about. One of the adults landed on the northeast corner of the building and then moved to the southeast corner of the 31st floor then flew off again. We finally saw an adult duck in behind Stanchion #1 which is the closest to the nest box. He or she stayed there for a while so we surmise that perhaps it was feeding a kiddo. I have a watcher who works in the former Chase Tower and he is on the lookout for us. I will go back down tomorrow morning and see what I can see. The box is separated from the ledge which is actually a wall creating a trench. If our little intrepid explorer is there, she is safe and the parents can easily get to her. I will copy and paste this to the Market Tower forum. Thank you so much Arles. Let us know if you see anything else!

The first stanchion that I refer to is a pillar that extends to the top of the building. It is part of what is circled in this picture.

With daybreak, the plot of the MIA falcon chick saga thickened. A worker in one of the nearby office buildings saw a juvenile falcon on the ground as she was walking to her office. As luck would have it, she also spotted Dox and hatch from a few years back in a flower pot leading to his rescue. So she knew right away what she was looking at! After digging out Laura's business card, she made the call.

I was having breakfast with my son south of downtown so I was able to get there quickly. I called Miranda and we looked together. She has "falcon eyes" and saw him again. He took several low flights and ended up near a flower bed where I finally was able to throw a blanket over him. As Laura notes in her blog, JC is spending a few days at the rehabber since we are expected to have severe weather later today and tomorrow.

Link to Laura's blog with Miranda's original picture.
The irony of this shirt is not lost on any of us. :teehee: This was purchased from the Wildlife Center of Virginia to celebrate Buttercup, their lovely educational black vulture.
Incidentally, Buttercup just celebrated her 13th birthday in January! :loveheart2: The shirt reads, KEEP CALM AND CARRION

It's JC, named for John Castrale

We are expecting strong storms today and apparently one has been hopping from perch to ledge.... YIKES! I sure hope we are not summoned downtown again.
