Not seeing the chick, so hoping it is at the other end of the nest out of view and not out and about. Will check back ... Still no chick at 6:30 pm nest time ... Still don't see at 8:16 ...

Gigi, if this chick is capable of being out and about, they won't attempt to band in the morning will they?

I'm really starting to wonder if something is wrong here. It's 8:54 nest time. Still no view of the chick and it dawned on me, not seeing Mom or Mack either ...

Seeing one of the parents, possibly Mom on the porch now. Mom went down in the nest at 9:00 pm, but still no sign of the chick.

When Mom dropped down in the nest as above, she went to the old bowl area and she has not left that spot. I thought when she went down in the nest, if the chick was at the other end it would surely come up to her or even if it were in that area beyond the porch it would come toward the nest. I have been here all this time and not once did I see any sign of the chick. As I leave at 10:40 pm, Mom continues to stand in the old bowl area and is preening.

I still don't see the chick. John is supposed to band this morning about 10 am. I am transporting a nestling downy woodpecker to rehab so I'll be on the road at that time.

I sent a text to John so he knows what to expect this morning. I hope this one has simply hopped out of camera range...

Thanks, gigi. I checked sometime near 1:00 am and Mom was up on the porch facing outward and no sign of the chick then either. Don't see anyone right now ...

OMG!! The chick is back in view and huddled in the corner!! I had to leave for about 30 minutes and did not see it's return. Wonder if he found it and put it back or if the chick came back on it's own? Can not see it's legs to see if banded. But so glad it is alive and well!! Will watch for bands ...

Duh ... the eggs are gone!! Guess he has been here! This has made my day, I was so worried about it!! Was afraid it had been predated or gotten over the porch and was blown off the building!!

It got to the porch while I was posting and I didn't get to see it's legs at about 10:49. Gonna have to quit posting and just watch, it hopped down to the section beyond the porch while I was posting again ...

It's huddled outside in the corner by the porch ... have to move on at 11:07, but will keep checking back in.

I am ready to start back with the birds (downy woodpecker and a toddler barred owl) so I missed it too. Laura said she saw human activity about 10:20 and then that the chick was “back”! I can’t wait to hear the story on this one!

Still outside the box. Was out of view when I 1st came in and then it came in view as it walked up the length of the area below the porch and rounded the corner, but turned around and came back walking down the length of the porch and out of sight.

Back to us, but I think this is Mom on the porch and I do not see the youngun!!

John said he had not seen the chick since last Thursday or Friday and assumed the chick was on the roof. Yesterday he banded her and put her back in the box, but as we can see she didn't stay long. Have we definitively identified the male here?

Do you mean ID him from his band numbers. I have not. Does he think this is a new male? I have not seen the chick anytime I checked in today. I think I saw Mom once with her back to us on the porch. Make that twice. In fact, Mom is on the porch now at 10:32.

Yes, he wants to know if anyone has been able to read the bands. He has no reason to think we have a different make here, but it’s nice to be sure for the official reports. I went through the pics that included the male but I couldn’t tell. I also sent them to him in case his eyes are better than mine!

I remember everyone trying to get band #'s a few years back, but know that is very difficult here. Nobody home now.

I think google removed my auto refresh that was at the top right of my screen as it is gone now... did anybody else get this msg?

I went to page one and selected the auto refresh there and it takes me to a screen written in a foreign language.

Mom is on the front porch.
