Yes, the juvie hung around for a long time on cam, just enjoying the breezes. Looking very peaceful.

More sad news :cryinggirl: :tissue:

SOUTH BEND — More bad news about this year's local peregrine falcon population.
A chick from this year's brood of four birds was found dead on a rooftop Sunday, according to local raptor volunteer Carole Riewe.
This was the second female chick to die. Another female bird was found dead in late June, possibly from frounce, an infection of the digestive tract.

Can I just vent here...I (we) KNEW something was wrong with that chick...and I felt sure it never made it off that roof (did I not WISH somebody would please check the roof!!)...I am both :tissue: and :furious: ...and BTW, advanced Founce (from everything I have read and pics I have seen) is hard to miss and very easy to diagnose, so "suspect"? I know that trich is extremely difficult to treat, but that chick may have been saved. That's what's so unfortunate...we knew she was sick... :cryinggirl:

I just hope the other 2 are ok!!

Yes, we did know that there was something wrong with the chick, but we are not the only ones watching the cam, so perhaps our rehabbers knew it also. But I know it is hard for those of us on this board who are watching all the time, caring about these birds with such a passion, rejoicing in every success and feeling every sorrowful event..... The news report does not say which rooftop. Is it possible that the bird had a flying accident and wound up on another rooftop? Either way, it is a sad event. :sorrow: :sorrow:

Peace spent about an hour in the box and on the perch about four hours ago. Mostly sitting but also maybe he was toying around with the scrape. It's hard to see with the camera lens dirty from that big storm we had a while back. The nest box is a good way to get out of the sun, and it's pretty hot today. ( I gotta go out and work in it. Whew !)

Thanks for the Peace report, sbwatcher...I did see him in the box earlier today..(he does appear to love his home!!)

I'm sure the rehabbers are as saddened by the losses as we are, but often we are their eyes!! They are so busy most of the time, checking on these cams is probably a treat for them!!

Saw one falcon on top of the building, NE corner, doing a lot of self grooming and enjoying the breezes. He's probably still up there. No one anywhere else, but this may be a bit early for their evening social time.

I no longer have a contact for the cams. I tried contacting Brent, but he has moved on to another job and never got back to me. Same with Carol Riewe who is the retired rehabber. I hate to bother Allisyn or John with this. If I figure out a way to find out, I will let you know.
