And a little over 3 hours ago, Peace came in with a stiff gift that Maltese did not take, but she did get up and leave and he saw his chicks and brooded them for a short while. He came back later and she would not get up. More recently he came back with a fresher looking gift and she left with it and within the minute returned and it looked as if we had a blocked feed that she took the 1st bite of, but it did not last but seconds.

Thanks, T!! The stiff that Peace 1st brought in that I mentioned above (that Maltese did not take with her) he actually took to the chicks and stood there awhile, maybe he was going to feed at 1st, but didn't as he ended up brooding it with them. When Maltese comes back she broods it also. Later when she gets up, you can see her pick it up from the chick and egg pile and carry it out of the nest. So, don't be alarmed if you see her carry something from the nest bole that is disconcerting on the DVR.

:teehee: I've seen Peace bring in 2 that seemed well past being capable of providing any nourishment, I think sometimes he grabs anything he can to be with the chicks. Over an hour ago, Maltese met him on the porch and grabbed a gift he brought and she hopped back down and fed the chicks. A little later there was a nest exchange and you could see the egg finally (it's been covered by the chicks through the night) after Peace rolled it toward him to brood. Then he realized he needed to include his chicks and eventually he had the 3 of them under him too!

:15heartbeat: Well-dried and strong enough at approx 5:00 AM CDT to rise for feed by Maltese at short points in time, although I am unsure if it got any this time ...

:15heartbeat: Peace brought the meal into the nest, came at least once to the porch during the feed to look on and finally got to brood his new one along with the others, for a short period when Maltese left after the feed!

:buzzybee: Watched a feed given by Maltese approx 2 hours ago. She took the 1st few bites and then started feeding the chicks. Two of the 3 largest were getting bites and #4 was in the back and not getting anything, but he had his beak open. One of the 3 largest kept getting squeezed out by the other 2. Finally, #4 was able to make it's way around to the front and eventually was able to get bites. And near the end the one that kept getting squeezed out was also able to get some bites. So Maltese and all 4 chicks got something!!

You are welcome, gigi! That and she has had them in the "bad corner" some over the last couple of days. I almost always have to go back on the DVR to find the feed or period right before or after when she steps away for a moment to see them or at a nest exchange. He's a cutie, but I sure felt sorry for him when he was at the back of the pack with his beak gaping open for food and the other 3 standing almost abreast in front of him!!

:buzzybee: Peace just brought in a meal for the family. Maltese is removing the feathers! The chicks are in the bad corner, but you can see all 4 heads sticking up waiting to be fed as I leave.

I finally got a picture of the uncovered chicks. They were bopping and bonking so I was trying to get a shot with all 4 beaks. Not successful, but I did get this!
