I was just getting ready to post the article also thanks carly
Zoe I love it and the reference to Zephyr
Riewe and her fellow falcon watchers have named the chick Zoe, the Z an intentional reference to Zephyr.

I forgot to mention, Beth originally posted the little airplane a while back. I thought it was so cute I kept it. Thank you Beth for that darling emoticon!

I've seen one of the falcons a couple times out in Osceola (about 20 minutes from south bend). I wish the cam would stay up :( Every time I check the cam when it is up, the nest is empty and no one is perched nearby that I can see. SBWatcher is right...downtown SB is mostly safe in that area (but still be careful!)

I was just going to post that the falcons don't seem to be around during the daylight hours, when I dropped by a friend's house, and she told me that she had seen them on cam today around 6 p.m. Zoe was in the box, (for how long my friend doesn't know, as she wasn't glued to the cam like some folks ... :teehee: ) Then after a few minutes, Guinevere showed up, my friend thought it was a food delivery, but after some falcon in-box maneuvering, the two of them left the box. Apparently, G came to fetch Z for a bit of evening hunting. I was downtown just now at 8:30 pm. and saw no one, so they are probably still out.

I really wish I could take and post photos, but can one photograph a far away falcon with a cell phone or cheap camera and get a picture that is worth anything at all? :?:

And what about at night in a well-lit downtown setting?

I can try. I usually only have my cell on me, but it can take photos and video. I need to get my decent camera out and take some pics. Although, I don't have a better zooming lens, so they won't be too great lol.

BIG RAINSTORM, ( Which we have really been needing !) so I figured this might be the best chance to catch a falcon in the nest box. 6: 15 a.m., no falcons visible downtown. 6:30 a.m., I arrive at my friend's house to use internet, and the falcon cam is ...... whited out !! :tearhair :suchdrama:

Probably affected by the weather, lots of lightning last night.
Oh well, at least I tried. Maybe there is nothing wrong with cam, it might be this computer, so maybe someone else should try viewing today. Pretty please !

Thank you SGB for posting this tribute banner to the Indiana falcons lost in 2012. It is beautiful.

Ground report from South Bend:

I've been either too early or too late to see any falcons for the last several days, not sure if they had both left entirely.
Yesterday morning, I decided to go early, and I was there about 15 minutes after daylight, but no falcons. No falcons last night either.
This morning, I'm out walking the cat, and break off our walk to head downtown. I get there and am excited to see a blob on the building, and my binoculars let me see that this is not a pigeon blob, but a falcon blob. :ohyes: Falcon still here ! :ohyes:

I watched for some time as she sat, preened, stretched, preened, walked a slight distance on the roof and then sat some more. She was there for over an hour. Even with the binocs, I couldn't tell if this was Guinevere or Zoe, but I did see the distinctive black cheek stripe of the peregrine falcon.
Falcon watching season is still open !
