Thanks for all your ground updates, sbwatcher! :girlyes: Sounds like a good idea about changing the box location a bit.

Yes, he does. I will PM anyone who wants his email address rather than post it here. I do know he and Amy are trying to visit all of the eagles' nests now. I had emailed him last year about it, but it probably did not make it to the top of his never ending to do list!

Glad to see interest here in moving the nest box. I am admittedly new to the falcon world, but I have given the matter a lot of thought all through the fall and winter and come up with the following ideas:

1) How about national and international expressions of interest? On this board, it can happen. Even a few emails from Faraway Falcon Fans would probably make a big impression. ( In South Bend, even places such as Cleveland and Indianapolis are considered kind of far away. ) If we got board posts from around the world on the box issue, it might make action more likely. As a bonus, this might lead to local press coverage, which would increase local interest in our guys .

2) I wonder if it would be helpful for the locals in charge of the South Bend box to see various picture examples of successful box locations. They used to say that a picture is worth one thousand words. How about posting pictures and links here, or having a separate place? Mods, let us know what is best !

I don't know the Topeka story, but maybe that would be a useful example to share also.

I am busy for the next two days, but after that Im willing to do some legwork here in South Bend. For this cause, I am willing to work on-line, telephone, and/or in person, and to use my powers of friendliness and persuasion.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that maybe it is better for the box to be moved before egg laying, but I don't really know. In any event, I will aim for action sooner rather than later.

I seriously doubt that they would move the box after eggs are laid. In fact, its probably illegal to do so unless its an emergency, so time really is of the essence. Thanks for your offer to spend some of your valuable time to try to make this happen, sbwatcher! :snowflake6i:

sbwatcher, you have some great ideas and it is wonderful that you are willing to do some leg work there. My guess (and I really don't know) is that it would be John Castrale's final decision about moving the nest and where, but maybe he could give the word to a local person for the actual work rather than him having to physically drive to South Bend and wield a hammer.

I will send a gentle request to him via email and see what happens. As gigi said, he is super busy.

I just sent John Castrale an email. Here's hoping ........

There is a falcon on the building right now! North east corner. I saw it with my good binoculars as I was entering the library.

I have a picture to share...not related to falcons, but I think you guys will like it anyway. Spotted this guy in a field in Mishawaka off Bittersweet :) First time I've seen a bald eagle in quite a while!

Gwinevere is home as I type, enjoying a sunny day at the edge of the box... :girlluv:
The scrape area seems so dark. Or is it just this time of day?
