No. I had not. I just got home a few minutes ago and this is the first I have heard about it. I messaged Jane and hopefully will hear back. Will report.

I just talked to Liz at bird rehab and they received word about a juvenile red tailed hawk that was down at the airport. It was captured last night and determined to be not injured and imprinted [tame] so Liz said it is with a falconer now. If there is a second bird down this morning, we don't know about it.

the hawkfound was probably the same report as downed falcon. ( hope I am right ). we investigate many reports in our season of downed falcons and they are hawks of som e kind,
we recently had a report that one of our falcons was splat, as they put it on a parkade. Peter and I went quickly and it was a grebe. I felt bad for it but glad it was nto a falcon.

So interesting that you posted this today Bev. I just got off the phone with Liz and she has the RTH now. Now the falconer does not think the bird is imprinted, but possibly has a neurological problem. Maybe West Nile Virus. Time will tell with this bird. I switched my rehab day to Wednesday this week, so I hope to know more. Glad not a falcon, but....

I don't think WNV is that unusual in hawks although we don't always get a firm diagnosis since there is not a specific treatment for it. Fluids, food and time. We assume it is WNV or a neurological condition and just hope for the best. There was no evidence of trauma when we originally rescued the bird last week.

It is interesting, when we evaluate a bird that isn't acting quite right, we assume illness, injury, etc. However the falconer assumed imprinting and that the bird was a possible candidate to use in falconry.

Thank you Loza!

I have other news about KathyQ and Sesenta from Laura:

"I found out over the weekend in talking with a British vet visiting Indiana who is wild about peregrines where KQ and Sesenta may hang out a bit. He came downtown to specifically look for them. He found them both flushing pigeons over by the new Marriott and hanging out on the letters at the top of the building. He showed me a pic on his camera. One was on the "A" and the other on the "O" - they obviously like vowels. Since that building is very close to my work place and I can see the letters from my office area, I have been looking for them to appear. No luck yet. In past years, KQ has been seen hanging out on the lettering at Lucas Oil Stadium in the off season (officials talked to John C about it - well, they complained about it). Maybe they should try out for the Wheel of Fortune. "

I would like to buy a vowel! :teehee:
