I think these nests need wipers on the lens because this is always a problem when the nest has kids! :teehee:

Can't you just see the kids playing with them if they started up once the kids started exploring?

I am so jealous that you are able to be there, Matrix. Besides introducing yourself to John Castrale, look for Amy Kearns. There will probably be volunteers from Soarin Hawk Raptor Rescue too.

They are scheduled to start at 1 PM. Usually John says a few words, then suits up to gather the chicks. He returns to the auditorium and commences with banding. They have a live feed in the auditorium projected on a big screen so everyone gets a good look.

Matrix will provide on the scene photos! I found last year it was easier to take photos of the screen than try to scoot in for a close up. The professionals do a much better job than I could to capture the banding close up.

:egg8: Cam is pointed toward the ceiling.......They're Here........
It doesn't take long to gather up two chicks - in and out very quickly. I hope they gave the dirty lens cover a wipe or two .....I wonder what Moxie and Jamie are doing? Now Moxie is perched at the far right side of the box. Her head is off camera - I'm supposing she is kakking away.....

:egg8: Chicks are back with their pretty green and black bling. They can't decide which corner to huddle in. I haven't seen the parents yet.
There's mom. I don't think she is a happy camper- very defiant stance....I wish we had sound even if just for the bandings. :teehee:

Woo Hoo! That was fun to watch and touch the "grandkids" up close!!!

FYI the state bands being used are black over blue but on the cams they appear black over green!!
John Castrale is a great guy, and it was a pleasure to chat with him. Indiana is lucky to have him even in his retirement!

Soarin Hawk Raptor Rescue members put on a Great Presentation, and brought in "Nancy" a female peregrine that is one of their educational ambassador's. She has a wonderful history at her former nest site.

Two members of Soaring Hawk received the naming and holding their named chick.

The older chick is female, and is named "Maggie", and she is HUGE and very very feisty!

The younger chick is a male, and is named "Gus", he was sweet and adorable. So tiny compared to his sister!

Both were healthy as can be!

I'll come back with band numbers later after pictures are done.

Moxie is not too bad when it came to defending. Jamie was the firecracker. He was diving hi speed at the guys when they returned Maggie and Gus.
Moxie soared in repeatedly and attacked when they were putting the kids back in the box, but it was out of sight from where we were on the garage.

A Great experience!! Great people too, at Indiana Michigan Power Center AEP!!!!

I am pleased you got to go, Matrix. John certainly is fabulous and we are grateful he has continued sharing his non game bird expertise in retirement.

Look forward to seeing your pics!

Moxie and Jamie when Gus and Maggie were returned. Gray clouds made for dark pics. Moxie has a nice gap in her secondaries that gives us a clue as to her abscence last month. She probably was in a fight. She has started molting her primaries too.
