From this morning...and I still have no clue who this is...can't get a good shot of the bands..

She has been in there for while...I wonder if the day is the day...must be quite a few people watching, because my refresh isn't working very well...

SBG,

Richard and Laura also think this male is one of the 2008 hatches from this nest. Laura forwarded one of our pictures to both John and Amy at DNR. Amy would like to see the bottom number/letter better and we have not heard from John. The general consensus is that it is the 2008 hatchling.
The IPL birds were not named, so maybe we should think about what we want to call him unofficially.... I am referring to the female as Star, since that was the name given to another unbanded female here.

Well, I think we'd better think of a name soon...this is the first time I've seen someone at night...maybe we're very close to an egg!!!!

No egg this morning....

2 things from John at DNR:

1. John thinks that the yellow things we saw in the box may have been the foam earplugs that the workers use. If they just blew in it would explain how they just appeared and then disappeared on their own. He has let the IPL officials know so they are aware and hopefully they will reiterate to their employees the importance of staying clear of the nest box. Of course at this time of year they are likely to be attacked and that would be its own sweet revenge!

2. John agrees that this male is 67/B from 2008 at IPL. I forget who did the major detective work, but congrats.

EDIT: from Laura about naming the male
"It is up to the on site managers of the place where the box is located or lead DNR volunteers at the site to do that if they want (and sometimes have a contest like at MT the last few years) and I wouldn't want to offend IPL (I don't know that they necessarily would be though - it's just tough to reach those guys down there) . They have named their chicks in the past and John has let Richard and I know about it but apparently that tradition went by the wayside down there. We can amongst ourselves but I'm not going to post it anywhere."
LATER she suggested calling him "67". That works for me!

Thought this was a G and a number...but, no G number in the data base...so, for fun I ran 67/B...which, it only slightly looks like...guess who 67/b is...Hatched right from this nest in 2008. The male that year was unbanded..

But, back to the drawing board...at least he got closer to the cam this time..

That is what I thought, but did not have time this morning to check that. Susan, thanks for looking it up and giving SGB credit for her observations. Like you said, this is why she is paid the big bucks. :laugh2

On another note, Laura said we could call 67 whatever we want, however in her communication with IPL and in the IndyStar blog, he will be referred to as "67". I am thinking about calling him Boomerang, Boomer for short. Is that too goofy? I kind of like it and think it reflects his life journey so far....

Weigh in and give me suggestions, otherwise it will be "67" AKA Boomerang! :egg6:
