Thanks Alison. How wonderful you captured additional pics from the box. I guess there is no place like home!

Wish we could see both of them together too Alison. Perhaps chasebuildingwatcher will give us a report tomorrow.

Another news report on the missing chick this is great the word is starting to get around :clapegg:

SOUTH BEND -- One of the two peregrine falcon chicks that hatched this spring on the County-City Building is missing, according to a volunteer who tracks the birds.

The two chicks, both of which are females, left their nesting box atop the 14-story building about 10 days ago.

Volunteers have seen one of the chicks on the roofs of smaller downtown buildings. They have been unable to locate the other chick since it was seen Thursday morning on a ledge of American Trust Place at Michigan and Washington streets, said Carol Riewe, a local naturalist and raptor rehabilitator.

Riewe said the chicks, born in mid-May, still are dependent on their mother for food. Therefore, the missing chick is at risk of dehydration and starvation as long as it's separated.

Anyone who spots the bird should call South Bend Animal Care and Control at 574-235-9303, city police at 574-235-9636 or Riewe at 574-339-7913.

Oh, I know the sorrow and frustration of not being able to locate a recently fledged chick. I sure hope there is a sighting soon.

I am so sad to find out that one of the juvies is missing. I can only hope that she is okay and will turn up soon.

Zephyr has been amazing this year. Not only did he survive a very serious injury, he made a good recovery and did not allow his injury to prevent him from doing everything he had always done. He incubated the eggs, he hunted, he protected and provided for his family. He is the first tiercel I know of who has managed to raise chicks after losing a foot. Dundas from Hamilton came very close four years ago; he and his mate had eggs, but in a cold, wet spring, they did not hatch.

There are so many peregrines who are incredible parents, but I nominate Zephyr for Father of the Year.

The last pics I have are from a few days ago; the first pic shows one juvie going into the nest. I thought that might have been the second juvie, but maybe not. Later, one came home for the night.

I second your nomination, Alison, for Zephyr as Father of the Year! What an amazing guy he is!

I sure wish there were a ground crew in South Bend to observe the parents who can lead to the missing juvie. I guess we'll just have to wait, but it is killing me not to be able to go up there.

I see they found the missing and placed her back in the nest.
The article disappeared but this is all I found on Google.

SOUTH BEND -- The peregrine falcon chick that went missing last week downtown has been returned to its nesting box on County-City Building, ...

Hope she's OK and both are flying well. Has anyone heard anything?

Thanks, Donna

I'm looking threw the archives and found this little bit so far

Carol Riewe] said volunteers painted an orange dot on top of one of the bird's wings and underneath its other wing, so it can be identified easily if it goes missing again.
OK thats all I could find at the newspaper

that is great news that the juvie was found. I like the idea of marking her so that she is easily identified. Hopefully she is up high doing well!!
