I asked 'Friends of Blackwater' if they had any idea what was going on... their response:
"This would seem pretty late for a 2nd clutch. The eagle pair do keep tabs on their nest. They keep adding sticks and chasing off any raptors that might think it's available, since they plan to use it next season. Even if they're not going to lay eggs, we would expect them to watch over the nest."

I don't think this is the same pair - maybe the same male - but not the same female; also could be completely new pair... But without nametags !!

I personally have emailed Lisa, and sent pciutres. No one really knows what is going to happen.

I have thought this was a new pair for quite sometime, but tend to not say much about it. like you said bonbon, they are not tagged so we will never really know.

one thing I have learned about raptors, is that you can never predict what they will do. Just when you think you have things figured out , they change. So I will continue to monitor, and who knows.

I think this is beyond protecting territory. they are mating and spending night in nest. I do not think we saw that last year, after loss of chicks. then it was too late, but this was only 1.5 weeks after eggs laid that nest failed.

I've had the feeling that mom#1 has been gone ever since they found the pile of feathers on the trail...

well they have kept a presence ion nest. and if this leads to no where, it has been quite the ride.

and right now you cannot see on e but it is just off to left of nest.

well now I can say, what has been in my mind. there are 2 pairs of eagles. I have pictures later. A bigger pair and a smaller pair. They have both been using platform. But I saw all 4 today, within seconds, at same time.
But same pair has been on nest.

so I choose a project every year and this is the one this year. that is why I am following it through. and although there are only a few of us still wondering here, I will continue. I have it documented

I keep an eye on this nest as well bev. Saw the female sleeping on the nest for two nights in a row. Early morning the male joined, and then both flew off.

yes, they have been spending quite a few nights there now.

thanks DEF WE will see what happens. It was wet last night so they were not on as much.

They are still mating but not sure what pair is on nest.
will post more photos later in evening from yesterday.

i have an osprey on osprey cam Oh Boy. what will happen

I love the osprey . but the eagles have been here every day and mating. But I know the osprey are tough also

here is Mondays slideshow. It shows at one point , two cams, one eagle on nest and 2 on osprey nest. shortly after 2 on nest and two on osprey nest. also mating

there are going to be eggs somewhere IMO somewhere on that refuge, late or not

will post photos later but I believe 2 different osprey . I know females sort of have necklace around neck.

eagles were in nest, and one eagle went to osprey platform and left and osprey came back
