Egg #1, buried in the nest by M15; maybe it was damaged (???), not viable???

(I accidentally clicked the pictures... and they magically became greatly enlarged!)

After viewing recordings and comparing eggs, we can confirm Egg 2 was laid on November 25 at approximately 6:13pm. Egg #1 may have been compromised in some way and has been buried deeper into the nest material.

Harriet and M continue to amaze us with their instincts and we hope for the best for both eggs.

Second egg arrives at the Southwest Florida nest, but the first egg has disappeared
"Last evening, eagle mom Harriet laid her second egg. However, watchers noticed that the first egg had been buried in the nest materials and unattended for some hours before that. It appears that the first egg may not have been viable and so was pushed aside by the eagles. We won’t ever know for sure what happened, but based on observations, it appears that the egg we see now is the second egg."

I noted the eagle calendar of the 1st egg's demise. We will just have to wait and see if there will be another egg this season.

There are two eggs again. Is this the first egg uncovered or Harriet laid another one?

Thanks, tiga8!

Well, there are definitely 2 fine looking eggs. So were we mistaken about the first egg being cracked and we still have #1 & #2 or did Harriet lay egg #3? Enquiring minds want to know!!

Here are today's Nest Notes:

"Mom and Dad appeared to be off of Egg 1 quite a bit but all looked to be alright since the weather was warm. Delay of incubation occurs until all of the eggs are laid. Harriet’s clutch has usually been 2 eggs over the past years. Dad would cover Egg 1 with nest material and Mom would bring it back into view to incubate. It seemed that Dad was protecting Egg 1 and he would continue to cover it up digging deep into the nest bowl.
Mom was nearing the delivery of her second egg and there was no sighting of Egg 1 since Dad had it well buried. Mom checked around in the soft grasses, laid in the nest and appeared to quietly deliver Egg 2. It was not known if indeed this egg was Egg 2 or if Egg 1 had reemerged. Thoughts were that the actions of Dad covering Egg 1 may have meant it was somehow compromised and he was burying it intentionally. Egg 2 was laid at 6:13 p.m. on November 25, 2016. As Mom and Dad continually incubate Egg 2, aerating the nest bowl has partially uncovered Egg 1. There is no way of knowing the fate of Egg 1 for sure. Viewing nature can be interesting, joyful and heart wrenching at the same time. There are logical reasons for the workings of it all. Nature has no time to wallow in loss and sorrow. Focus is now toward rejoicing in the present. All hope is to welcome new life into the pasture.
