9:53pm - whoever (female?) is on the ledge is chupping again.

I'm going out on a limb here...

4 days ago, there was a big "topping" ceremony at a Salesforce Tower. It's literally just a block or 2 away from this site.

We know that there are a few pairs within downtown SF.

That building is going to be one of the tallest buildings west of Chicago, and the tallest in SF. It's redefining the skyline.

We know how peregrines like the tallest buildings... My guess is they had a pair set up shop somewhere on that building. I bet when they put the "top" on, it disturbed the birds which has led to this turmoil at this nest... just my 2 cents. I may be 100% WRONG, but with the in and out of all these birds...none look the same to me... I bet that's what's happening... That's why we are confused - or at least I am and keep thinking I'm seeing new birds.

He stayed on ledge, then took off.

She's back on ledge calling for him.

As I was typing this, she must have taken off. I can hear them. Not sure if it's bonding or mating. Fast chirps?

Yes, Barbara posted on the SF forum last night at 10:30ish PT that it was over 60 hours since Egg#1, so something is going on....

there was fight here last night april10-
the cam operators did nto catch it on tape but I did. I was watching. it was our male and another male. the other male came in on floor from right as you are looking at cam.

it was sort of weird as he walked toward male on ledge and I first thought it was the female, as the intruder held it wings up, then bam. our male flew at him from the ledge and had the other on its back. It sounded and looked worse than what it was. the other male was able to turn over and fly out with ours on its heels.

our male did come back and so did our female. the male then left for the night and our female stayed on ledge all night

so mwplay, there could have been standoffs during the day. I do not think it is over as he was in box a bit ago, and femlae was on ledge and he flew out quickly.

AS far as the egg goes. I do not think that this male belongs to this egg. just my gut and what I have been seeing. it is strange because neither one of them has even rolled the egg, much less lie on it. the people at site are saying, well, they do nto go into full incubation till almost full clutch. We know this, but they at least roll it and keep it to a certain temperature.
this poor egg has had not one touch of any kind , except accidental . And then there is the scraping of the male . this what new male at Bell did last year ,after eggs were already laid when he came in.
the males instinct is to prepare a scrape at the beginning of season. I think this beginning of his season and nearly the end of hers , hormonalaly , or she could lay an egg of his yet, but later, as in Axel( but new female there)

so we will see

lots of chatter here today. but I do not have time to watch too much, as I have my sites to monitor.

I will post some pictures from fight later if anyone wishes.

An mwpaly, I do think there is an extra male and a female out there.

11:20 ish...

1 was working around the scrape (outside of box), went into scrape. picked a little, but did not touch egg.

Until I see both birds together, I can't tell if this is the male or the female, but it is on the ledge now.

I hear the other one vocalizing.

Bev - Completely right - no interest by the one at scrape in egg.

Prey exchange. One working around scrape was female.

what a shame here. It is a real mess with falcons. you can hear them but not always see them. Someone has to be at cam.

This nest has been in turmoil since the very start as far as I could tell. Thanks bev. for the videos. I think time is running out.

well, as our biologist says, it is right when it is Right for them. If their clock is still ticking, .this afternoon, the cam person caught a shot of 2 copulating across the way.

so maybe we will get chick yet. It is not as crucial here if they lay late. they have lots of time to train and learn, however at our sites , where they migrate, it is more crucial. a late nesting may not give them time to be ready.

I give up speculating as it will be what it will be. I guess I was only one that saw the fight . and even so, I do not know who we have anymore. it was 2 males fighting

the male is courting , he just brought in prey, and the side cap of female looks like our female . so they are not banded, the female s could have been fighting off cam as there as been so much racket and we cannot see .
or maybe there is not another female

as long as we have a male and a female and a chick, I will be happy.

I keep checking this cam and most of the time it is pointed to the ledge...Kinda makes me believe the cam operator is looking for "disputes"?

Cam is now showing the scrape and part of the ledge. Still one egg and there is a falcon sitting on the ledge...all's quiet..

So, brand new pair? new male? new female? Same pair that are having to spend their time defending?

it is a real mess but there may be eggs yet.

I iwll put in a few videos later. male brings in prey for female.

They are both hanging out tonight (9:50pm). I think the female is in the gravel near box. Male on ledge - I think.

At about 9:45, I thought maybe she laid an egg, but I think it was because she popped up and started to vocalize to her mate.

I was trying to post a side view picture, but no matter how small/large I size it, I can't the right size.

And, while I was trying to post the picture, heard loud booms - enough to scare both of them out of the nest area.

Terrible. I don't know if it was fireworks, or someone/thing on/near building.

we have had lots of canoodling and bonding here, so who knows. I never say never. and who knows who we have now. but we have 2 , a male and a female,

the powers of nature are a mystery.

I have been keeping up but no time to post but will try with a few photos this weekend

Now that I've taken the capture, I see that the other ones across the street!
