They just flew off kekking (alarm calling). Durand was 1st to leave the ledge, followed by Aries. It's 19 degrees in Columbus right now.

Someone perched on the ledge. I believe it's Aries.

Good morning all. For the 1st time in a long time, I heard a male cardinal singing his heart out outside my window this morning despite temps in the teens - already establishing territory. Days have been getting longer for almost 3 wks now, and we no longer have total darkness at 5pm. It's amazing how quickly this happens. I suspect hormones are starting to kick in for the birds with the lengthening days. Columbus is at the same latitude as Long Island, NY, where I live, so this would be similar for them. Activity will probably start picking up over the next few weeks. If I recall, one of the 1st canoodles was on Valentine's Day - not far away.

Good Friday morning everyone! I just saw bonding in the nest this morning - very short lived, however, Aries and Durand both went into the nest box, Aries bowed like two times and Durand bowing quite a bit - then all of a sudden Aries left the box and came down to the ledge cam side and Durand sq1ueaked for a few minutes hoping he would come back - then she came out of the box sitting on the other end by the nest box - both preening now Have a wonderful Friday and weekend everyone - wishing everyone a Blessed New Year.

I just spotted this blog update from Donna......

What on earth? Are those pebbles by the ledge cam? Is someone bringing pebbles to the opposite side of the ledge? Maybe Aries wants the nest relocated....lol I don't think the boss lady will agree.

Those kinda look like stones to me too. He might be trying to make a nest down there. I know Clara, in SJ, was sitting on eggs in the nest while her new mate FC Was at the other end of the ledge scraping away with a few little stones. Well he finally got caught up with what was really going on. It would be funny to see this new guy doing that, but not tossing up pellets though.

I agree. None of those look like a pellet, but rather stones. Maybe the pellet went over the ledge? That's an interesting story ljames. Anyway, someone home today. I'm guessing that it's Aries? Lately, he's taken to perching near the ledge cam....amongst his stones...lol.

Yup...thanks Terka. Looks like Durand has joined him. I got the band. It's Aries by the ledge cam.

Durand did some work on the scrape and is trying to get Aries to join her in the box, but he is not obliging her. He flew up to the opposite ledge, but then made his way to the far end of the nest ledge...away from her and is now in Spark's favorite perching spot...in front of the ledge cam, blocking the view. (Nest cam is ahead of the ledge cam.)
