The youngest chick at Union wasn't interested in eating yesterday. So, it's probably been a long time without food.

They banded here last year. No, it's not good to disrupt the nest twice, but if they don't, they may not have any chicks to band. :girlsad3:

New Jersey falcon scrapes lost chicks to trichomonas years ago, so all chicks get meds at 1 week and 3 weeks. Kathy Clark has been doing it for years. The birds manage somehow.

I believe the 2nd chick is gone. I don't see it breathing at all. :tissue:

I thought it was gone about an hour and a half ago, but I wasn't sure.

Only one chick for sure. This always saddens me, as it does everyone. Fingers crossed for the remaining chick.

Another pigeon. The surviving chick most certainly has mites. You can clearly see it under the wings. The whole nest probably needs to be treated.

So sad to read this, but I wasn't surprised. On Thursday or Friday, when someone noted that they weren't sure if Baby#2 had any bites during a feed, I got the feeling something was wrong. Then with whatever was going on, I felt it was going to spell trouble for the chicks.

So sorry as I really had hoped it would have been nice for them to have 2.

I hope #1 is stays healthy and thrives.

I hope they can get up there tomorrow early and remove those eggs and the baby's body. That egg with the double shell is turning black...likely a deceased baby inside. All that can't be good for the surviving baby and will attract more parasites.

Dad just came in and removed the deceased baby, good man!! Thank god, he flew off with it in his mouth!

The other brown egg - the one without the double shell - also looks like it is cracked at one end and stuff has been leaking out of it. It sounds like they won't be removing the eggs, so hopefully they will get pushed aside soon.

I'm glad to hear that Dad removed the chick's body. Cadence started to pick at it earlier and I couldn't bear to watch.

That was me....I was concerned , but just chalked it up to being the youngest...

I haven't seen the baby yet this morning..I'm hoping they can get up there and check it out like they usually do with NJ chicks. Like somebody said, better to disturb the nest twice and treat the chick then to lose the chick and have no chick to band.

Thanks for all the great coverage.

They are not going to disturb Cadence, her mate, and the baby - new mom and lots of stress. There is a message on the site.

You can just hear that baby screaming: I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP! AND YOU PUSHED ME OVER!

That chick seems to always have a big crop.
