11 pm last nite Sky reported - Elizabeth is IN the box tonight

I wonder if there is another falcon nearby.
I sometimes hear kakking and one of the 2 are usually on cam

I am keeping 3 falcons up on the side of my monitor all day - eggspecting

March 20, 2018 It was raining
3 pm The male is sitting there.
NO ONE was there overnite or most of today.
NOT a good sign. She may NOT accept this nest.
He was ripping a bird apart earlier.
Wish someone was on scene to see where else she may be.

Shep, if this is the same female, she has nested here for years!! If it is our Elizabeth, then she is a probably a senior citizen by now...and may be moving into retirement...who knows at this point.

No one home right now.

I heard them mating within the last 2 days. He is 16 and she is at least 15. They laid and hatched 3 eggs last year according to the annual report.

Good question Shep. I'll have to find out if any of them have been resighted. All these chicks are hacked to the mountains because of the bridge dangers.

Shep, I'm not barb, but at banding, the chicks are removed and taken to a hack facility...usually in W. VA. or Mountains of VA. (I'm not sure which one they are using now) The JRB chicks aren't the only ones removed. The Center for Conservation Biology removes many bridge chicks because survival at fledge is very, very poor.

More info here:

...and speaking of JRB, the falcons have been messing with the cam...its a total blur!!

This is why I stopped watching the nest way back when. I understand that this is a bridge and dangerous for the chicks, but...it broke my heart to watch them raise the chicks for so long only to have them removed at banding. Not criticizing, just something I couldn't watch.
:girlsad3:

Dear sweet Elizabeth. :15heartbeat:

Also, Richmond too as they place a cage around the chicks until they are ready to fledge. I always felt that it stressed the mom, and I know that it stressed me. Here again, I'm sure those smarter than I am make the best decisions for the juveniles. I watch for the enjoyment though, not the stress. Not to offend anybody.
