It must be hot here at Statler, too. Babies could be seen laying in the scrape panting hard. Alice came in, also panting hard and was mobbed by the babies for some prey but she had none. So after they were done picking at her toes and pulling her feathers everybody laid down. Oddly, Alice seemed to think she should incubate the lone unhatched egg. She pulled it under her and scootched around a couple times, and the just laid still. After a few minutes she got up and flew off, maybe remembering her living babies were hungry....

:loveheart: WOW- yellow feet is looking”ready to go”! A little bit ago he was out on the perch flapping his wings. It’s a breezy day here and he really had to hang on so he didn’t get blown away. At one point he discovered the joy of kiting- just spreading his wings and feeling the wind...

OOOPS! A Statler baby just fledged, more or less by accident, about 2 hours ago or so. He jumped out on the perch to flap his wings and I think a gust of wind made him lose his balance...he went over backward, but you could see him trying to catch some wind under his wings. Also a parent was right on it, following him to wherever he landed... 52/AX

:biggrin: AND - The happy ending to this story is that the young juvie was found safe and sound. Evidently he did not need to be rescued as he was pronounced “ a very good flier”

:biggrin: Ralphie ( banded adult) came for a visit to the nestbox... first he sat out on the perch, but then hopped into the shade of the nestbox. He kept looking over his shoulder. Was it to see if Alice or one of his kids had spotted him?
