Missed seeing Little Dad with the Blue Jay, but they are migrating through here right now. Saw at least ten of them flying over my place this morning and landing in a nearby tree. I've noticed that there is one chick with white feet, and the other three have yellow feet. The little one has yellow feet.

The chicks have taken over the shady spots in the scrape, so Niecey is left standing in the sun. A little bit ago she was sprawled out right outside the back door. Little Dad's tail is visible as he's up on the camera perch. As of noon, it's 73 degrees here and absolutely beautiful outside.

Niecey trying to get the one out of the sun. She's panting like crazy and this is just the beginning of warmer weather. I am vey impressed this year with her as a mother. She has come a long way. :flirty: :flirty:

There were two feedings within the last hour. The crops on those chicks look like they are about to burst.

FALCONWIRE POSTED:

5/2/2018 :: Update on the four eyasses
Over the course of this year's Earth Day weekend, all four of the falcon eggs hatched. The last of the young to hatch, and all the young, seem to be doing fine. Size is not a good indicator of growth until after their sex has been determined. One of the key components of the Falcon Banding Event scheduled for May 14, is when the Game Commission's Biologist Art McMorris will determine the sex of each, weigh them, and give them an overall check-up. Following this key step, then the young will be banded which will allow biologists to track these specific falcons for life. For peregrine falcons, the nestling period lasts from 35 to 42 days. This suggests that these birds will transition to fledging (learning to fly) sometime after the Memorial Day weekend.

All chicks in the shade, and Niecey is attempting to shield one of them while also trying to keep cool. As of noon, it was 82 degrees here. Not sure what happened to Spring.

Lil' Dad tries to sneak in with prey, but Niecey is there in a second. We're gonna need a couple more please.

6:45 AM THIS MORNING, THERE WAS A CANOODLE ON THE POINT. I WASN'T FAST ENOUGH FOR A PICTURE, BUT I SAW IT.

There was a canoodle on the point a week or so ago. And Niecey is already panting in the scrape. High of 88 is in today's forecast.

They all look so sleepy right now, but who can blame them in all this heat!

Poor little dears. I just looked up the temps and it's 90 degrees right now. Can that be right?

Yup, that's right--it was just 93 degrees!

It seems a little unfair to all the little falcons, and the rest of us for that matter, to go from cold straight to hot. :egg13:

I agree with you. Where was spring this year.
Keep cool friends down under.

According to the local news at 6:00, the official high in Harrisburg was 90, tying a record from 1965. Some places in the area were warmer than that, though. This is more like July than the beginning of May. It's to be a little cooler tomorrow, and then even cooler this weekend. Looks like four chicks would like to have some dinner.

I sure would like to see Little Dad. He's usually on the point at this time of day. Niecey is there now, and it looks like she's looking for him.

By the time I entered my previous post, Niecey had left the point. She is now up on the shield where she may or may not spend the night. Either there or in the scrape.
