The kids are still around. Go to the cam and you can hear them. I saw them flying past the cam; unfortunately, I couldn't get my fingers to work fast enough on captures. :spingirl:

The Friends of Big Bear Valley will be setting up their own YouTube channel and chat in the coming weeks, at which time this chat will transition away from chat about that nest, given that it is not an IWS nest and we are not involved in the operation of the cam or the monitoring of the eagles. Because it is slow on all our other nests, you can still chat about the Big Bear nest here until the switchover is made. The same will hopefully be done with the other IWS Partner cams before next season.

IWS Partner Cams

UC Berkeley Peregrine Cam 1 (UC1) UC Berkeley Peregrine Cam 2 (UC2)

Big Bear Bald Eagles (BB)

A very exciting update on one of our Cal Falcon alums (Class of '18): Lawrencium (aka Larry) is still doing great out on Alcatraz and looking mighty fine in her full adult plumage! She was spotted last week by Emily Thompson who sent us these photos. She's still hanging around with a male falcon, so it's quite likely that these two will be attempting to nest this coming spring. Hopefully Alcatraz will soon be hosting Annie and Grinnell's first grand-chicks.

In case you're visiting Alcatraz and want to keep an eye out for Larry, she's been seen perching on both the water tower and the lighthouse now.

Big thanks to Emily for the update and photos!

:flirty: Thanks, Terka! I remember posting an update about these 2 last spring, so it looks as if they are a couple for sure. Wouldn't it be wonderful if one day they put in a cam for " The Peregrines of Alcatraz"!! :flirty:

Who is Grinnell the peregrine falcon? We are fortunate to know some of Grinnell’s life story, because he was given unique leg bands while he was a nestling. Grinnell (aka 63/P) is a local boy, and was hatched in Martinez, California in 2013. Once they were large enough, Grinnell and his one brother were banded by Glen Stewart with the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group

After he fledged from the nest, he wasn’t seen again until he and Annie took up residence on the UC Berkeley Campanile. He helped to raise young in 2017 and 2018, and as an experienced father, we expect him to do the same this year.
