:flirty: It's Carson (blue) and Cade (yellow)! (One of these days I am going to quit voting! :teehee: ) An excerpt I took from Cal Falcons announcement this morning:

We are happy to announce the winners of the 2019 Cal Falcons naming contest! 2,190 falcon fans cast their votes and Carson and Cade are the big winners with 46.7% of the vote!

Carson (blue band) and Cade (yellow band) would like to thank everyone who participated this year.

:buzzybee: Love all the pics, you all!! Fledge watch begins today for Carson and Cade! Excerpt from Cal Falcons post on FB:

It's (likely) Fledge Week! Carson and Cade are both 40 days old today, which is about the average age of first flight. As part of our efforts to monitor and support this nest, we will be out at the Campanile from early in the morning to late in the evening to make sure the first flight goes off without a hitch.

One of the most dangerous times for young Peregrine Falcons in an urban environment is their first flight. They have to worry about windows, buildings, cars, and finding a safe perch. Luckily, at the Campanile, we don't have to worry about the chicks landing in traffic, but windows are still a big concern for us.

In the ideal world, the first flight is a quick circle that starts and ends at the top of the Campanile. However, chicks often don't have the musculature to maintain loft for very long and will look for an alternative landing spot. If they find a good spot on top of a building or high up in a tree, that's great, but we don't want them to be stuck on the ground where they could be hurt by animals or have difficulty taking off again.

Thus, the idea behind Fledge Watch. Our primary goal with Fledge Watch is to monitor the chicks first few flights and make sure that they get the proper care if they happen to land in a dangerous spot.

:dancingegg: I think they both "fledged" last eve, although Cade has been the furthest! Photo of Cade from Cal Falcons:

Edit to add: Nope, I'm wrong, because Carson has flown to Evans Hall and back. I actually don't know how far either "hall" is from the Campanile!! :teehee: But, both are doing great with their 1st few flights!!

:spring1: They are doing well here ... no rescues needed! I love this photo of "Cade keeping an eye on Carson as he flies around the Campanile" by John Davis:
