Amazing feet. I like the first pic where one chick has his foot on the head of the other chick. Don't
look at this cam, the chicks look much bigger than previous photos.
Also they looked hot, but eventually moved to the right to the shade.

:buzzybee: To be banded this Friday, but seems we will be unable to see:

Cal Falcons
We are almost exactly at the halfway-point of the nestling phase today! Peregrine Falcon chicks, on average, attempt their first flights around day 40 (looking to be about the first week of June for these two). The Cal Falcons (and their fanclub) are going to have a busy few weeks coming up. We thought we'd take a moment to bring everyone up to speed on some of the things that are going to happen soon.

Our plan is to band the chicks this Friday morning. When we band the chicks, we will be able to determine their sex based on the size of their legs. Note: we will be turning the cameras off for the duration of banding, so don't worry if you tune in and we're offline!

On Saturday morning we will begin our naming contest. The naming contest will be split into two parts: name suggestions followed by a final vote.

We will post the name suggestion thread at 8:00 AM on Saturday, so start thinking of good names for the chicks! When you come up with a name suggestion for both chicks, post them as a comment on that post. Its up to everyone here to determine which names move on to the next round: the most-liked suggestions will make it to the final vote! The suggestion thread will remain open until Monday evening. As in previous years, we are going to preemptively disqualify joke names like "Birdy McBirdface".

The final vote will begin Tuesday morning (5/21) and last for 48 hours. Top vote-getter will win!

Two males !

We have two boys! They were banded today at 8:30 and we’ll post the clip of the full banding process shortly! The babies are in great health and we expect them to fledge in 2-3 weeks. Thanks to the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group and Zeka Glucs for making this happen

One of them is self-feeding. :7val:

Ummm...they're both self-feeding. The one grabbed it away from the other.

Thanks catwoman, they are getting so big. I saw a video of one exercising on the ledge. Here's the names to vote on for these two from Cal Falcon:

WE WANT YOU TO VOTE!

Yes, it's the final round of the Cal Falcons 2019 naming contest!

We are excited to announce our four finalists (one from each social media platform + the most-voted kids' suggestion):

Carson & Cade - Named after Rachel Carson, who pushed to outlaw DDT and Tom Cade, the founder of the Peregrine Fund. Both were integral in Peregrine Falcons returning to the wild in North America - @ellen.schofield (Instagram) & @Stephanie Teague (Facebook)

Morgan & Maybeck - Named after Julia Morgan and Bernard Maybeck, two of UC Berkeley's most influential architects - @Carolyn Carr Hutton (Facebook)

Pomp & Circumstance - Named after the famous graduation song, as the chicks were banded right before UC Berkeley's commencement - @Fyght4Cal (Twitter)

Fluffy & Peeppeep - Top Kids' suggestion! - @Ian Agol's daughter (Facebook)

The vote is live at the link below and will be open until midnight on Sunday - Winner will be announced Monday!

Here's a very short video by Cal Falcon of the chick exercising:
