That's interesting about Niecey not wanting to get off the eggs. Little Dad has been there since I first tuned in about an hour ago. I don't see Niecey anywhere at the moment. About half an hour ago it started raining lightly. And hatching should be next week if all goes well.

Niecey came in for the night shift a few minutes ago, just as the cam switched to infrared. She looked like she's had a HUGE meal. Little Dad was reluctant to get up, but finally did and went out the back door. And thanks for the terrific pictures, Terka!

:15heartbeat: I was surprised to see Lil Dad still in the nest at 7:30 when I came in. And your right Jane, she looked huge when she walked through that door, I did a double take. I've also not seen her stay out till 8:00 at night. :teehee: I'm sounding like her Mother!! He just went on to where he sleeps when he left the nest ... no stopping on the point.

At 4:54 EDT, Niecey is asleep in the nest. Lil Dad has not arrived. Lil Dad arrives to the point at 6:26 with cries. He flew downward and out of sight immediately from the point at about 6:30. Switching to stick cam, eventually you see him flying toward the U and to the left of, but he is flying much higher and appears to go upward till off cam. Has he gone hunting for Niecey? 6:36 Yes! He returns with a feathered gift for Niecey to the point and she leaves the nest and flies out and upward till landing there and snatching her gift from Lil Dad and she flies! Lil Dad goes to the nest and gets on his eggs. I heard him talking some, but Niecey has not returned in cam view. Maybe, he is talking to his eggs! And then he is quiet. At 7:49 Lil Dad and I saw a falcon most likely by the name of Niecey, flying high and upward, but to the left of the U, just as Lil Dad did earlier. The reason I knew he saw is he jerked his head upward and looked around becoming very alert!

I often wonder when Little Dad gets a chance to eat something. He's either on the eggs or else out hunting for something for Niecey. Light rain started falling here about 20 minutes ago. Very gloomy but fairly warm.

About 7:35, I went in and found Niecey on the nest and Lil Dad is not seen on any of the cams. Around 7:43, I can hear Lil Dad's cries and Niecey is getting off the nest. I found Lil Dad on the ledge by using cam 3 and Niecey walks up to him and takes his gift clutched in his talon and flies with it! Lil Dad then goes to the nest. I bet this is why Lil Dad was on the nest so late last evening and Niecey coming home so late and looking huge. He is bringing bedtime snacks now!! He's bulking her up for their chicks that are coming!! By 8:04, Niecey has returned and Lil Dad left for the night!

5:15 EDT: Niecey is lying on the nest and Lil Dad has not arrived. Missed part of the events for the exchange @ 6:00. Lil Dad is now on the nest. Niecey left the nest just previous. Believe from seeing parts of this that Lil Dad arrived with a gift that Niecey flew to get and then away with. Then, Lil Dad flew to the ledge on the nest side of the stick and after walking toward, he stepped up and over the stick and went into the nest and got on the eggs. Found Niecey preening on the point by 6:47. Do not know when she returned as she had done so without any fanfare. Has been preening and at 7:42 she did her usual stretches. Still in these same positions as I leave at 8:08.

Tuned in to find Little Dad on the eggs and Niecey preening on the point. I missed those feeding events last night, as I assumed Little Dad had retired for the night. There's more light at night downtown than it looks like. I've seen falcons flying around down there when it's almost too dark to tell where they've gone. It's pretty warm already this morning, and storms are to be headed our way this afternoon.

I decided to give up on yard work before the rain starts. Tuned in to find Niecey almost in Little Dad's face while he was on the eggs. After quite some time, he finally got up and went out the back door. He's over on the point preening right now.

:buzzybee: From the Falcon Wire: 4/18/2019 :: The Countdown Continues
With Earth Day just around the corner on Monday, April 22, the anticipated hatch date for Harrisburg's peregrine falcons is Wednesday, April 24! This means that hatching could begin as early as Earth Day itself or may be prolonged and occur after April 24.
With four eggs being incubated, the question is, will all four eggs hatch? One indicator could be signs of "pipping," when, prior to hatching, the emerging eyeasses spend two days using a sharp egg tooth on their beaks to puncture the egg shell. Once they emerge, anticipate the eyeasses to weigh approximately 1.5 ounces. They will be covered in fluffy white down and they grow rapidly! This down will be replaced by feathers in three to five weeks. The eyeasses are essentially full-grown at six weeks of age.

 I think it'll be sooner rather than later. I'm watching for pips now and have been since Niecey was hesitant to get off the eggs two mornings ago. I'm hoping by Sunday at the latest, maybe Monday, we'll have a hatch!! Besides you all ... I HEAR CHIRPS FROM THE EGGS!! Go to the nest cam and go 100% sound and wait for it. I know it's windy, but you can do it!! :spring1:

Edit to add: I got here at 7:30 EDT, but I missed the nest exchange tonight.
11:48 Poor thing has been soaked, but drying out now,!

Lil Dad has not arrived and Niecey who is dry and fluffy now is lying on the eggs at 5:20. I can hear the sounds of all the birds nearby singing this morning and masking any sounds I might hear from the eggs. By 5:40, I can tell Lil Dad is near as Niecey raises her head and looks around. I do not hear him, but she gets up and walks out of the nest. I do not see any changes in the eggs from this view. I can hear them talking to each other and then, Lil Dad walks into the nest and gets on the eggs. I can not find Niecey in view on any of the cams. At 7:28, Lil Dad leaves the nest and flies to the point. I do not see Niecey on any of the cams. Then within a couple minutes, Niecey comes into the nest and is lying on the eggs. I no longer see Lil Dad on any of the cams as I leave. Note she has returned to the nest sooner this morning.

I remember people in the past saying they could hear sounds coming from the eggs. That same thing was reported from the eagle nest in Hanover this year and also from Red Girl's eggs in Wilmington. I personally will not be able to hear that. For the moment it's not raining here, but very damp. Mercifully the wind has quit.

:buzzybee: Unable to get cam from Main Website page, but HDontap cam (thanks Beth) is working. Lil Dad on nest with what looks like bloody beak from prey. 10:18 after hearing loud scream, I found Niecey has arrived on the stick! At 10:25, Niecey comes to door to get on eggs and Lil Dad flies to the point! He is calling and preening! No changes noted on eggs this view.

Cam from main web site is working for me. Little Dad is on the eggs now, and that blasted wind has picked up again. Fairly warm here and not raining now after some morning showers. Am going to be away from the computer for a while.

Have been watching Lil Dad tightly lying on the eggs for some time when he begins to cry ... Switching to the point cam, I found Niecey preening at the near point at 4:26 EDT. At 4:38, Niecey decided to lie on the near point, but was in that position for mere seconds, before she stood up. It is really windy and she is crying at intervals. I hope she doesn't want Lil Dad to mate as it is too windy, I think at least! :teehee:Lil Dad is quacking like a duck at 4:42!! At 4:45, she flew, but I rushed to the nest to see the eggs as Lil Dad was getting off and I was stuck for awhile after enlarging the screen and unable to decrease d/t option is out of view. I did not see any changes in the eggs. By the time I was able to get back out, Lil Dad was not on any of the cams and Niecey was standing on the ledge near the nest on cam 3. By 4:48, she had moved to the stick and Lil Dad was returning to the eggs. Now 4 minutes later, she is on the ledge near the nest and Lil Dad remains on the eggs. Then she left and I think it is still Lil Dad on the eggs now. He is lying at such an angle and his feathers are blowing up and it makes the size hard to determine. I'll correct later if it is her. Just saw Niecey return to the stick at 5:15! He continues on the eggs. At 5:41 Niecey walks into the nest and it takes 2 minutes before Lil Dad gets up and slips out the back door. She is lying on the eggs and he has not returned as I leave @ 5:48.

7:24 Niecey is on the nest. Do not see Lil Dad on any of the cams. Lil Dad arrives to the point at 7:33 with cries and Niecey looks up and responds! He flew off the point toward the left a little over a minute later. By 7:36 he returns to the point and she responds with cries, but does not get up. At 7:46, instead of diving low off the point, he flew almost level with the point toward the right and out of sight. Niecey re-positions over the eggs
