I think it's a bit soon for fledging, but the time is approaching. We will likely be starting our watches on Friday or maybe even Thursday. We would love to have as much help as possible for anyone local reading this.

BIG wind came blowing through here about an hour or so ago. I was relieved to see those three young birds flattened out on the ledge in front of the scrape. Then the rain started, and they got pretty wet. Two of them finally went into the scrape, but one of them was having a lot of fun playing in a puddle in front of the column, and then pranced WAY down behind the orange post getting itself quite wet. I was relieved when it returned to the scrape for the night. I kind of think it was the little guy.

Little Dad just checked in on the ledge. He had no food, so the chicks didn't pay much attention to him. Earlier this morning little boy Yellow Foot was flapping to beat the band on the point. He still has a good bit of fluff on his butt. I know some of you who read this are local. We could REALLY use some help on Thursday morning and many other times. If you or anyone else you know can help, that would be greatly appreciated. There will always be one person who knows how to do a rescue if needed. You might need to hold the rescue box, though. All watchers will be wearing masks.

Twice this morning Little Boy Yellow Foot went around the column and returned. Most of the rest of the day was inactive except for some wing flapping. Around 7 the adults put on a tremendous flying show. At one point Little Dad took off after something and returning 30 seconds later with some prey which was HIS dinner. Yellow Foot was out on the stick briefly and went around the column again around 7:15. Was glad when he returned to the big ledge. I see one bird sleeping in the scrape and two out in front. We will be back down there bright and early in the morning.

Thanks for the report Jane.

Checked in earlier today.

Chick mantling while another tries to get a share.

Thought for sure the one chick was going to cause the other one to fall off the ledge.

Evidently, a food delivery.

TUNED IN TO FIND THE DARK ONE BY THE STICK FLAPPING AWAY. IF HE DOESN'T TAKE OFF SOON I'LL BE SURPRISE. HE LOOKS LIKE ONE OF THE ADULTS FROM BEHIND EXCEPT A LITTLE SMALLER. BEAUTIFUL. :7val:

5/28/2020 :: Watch and Rescue is Underway!
On May 27, Day Two of the 2020 Falcon Watch and Rescue saw the season's first fledge at 1:18 pm, and its first rescue two minutes later as the yellow-footed male came to the ground on 4th Street, near Strawberry Street. The young falcon was not injured and appeared healthy, but during rescue, a possible mite infestation was observed around the fledgling's mouth and head. Normally, the young falcons are treated for mites and given a basic physical during the annual banding event by PA Game Commission biologists, but this year the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so out of an abundance of caution the young falcon was taken to Red Creek Wildlife Center. Prognosis looks positive towards the young falcon being returned, possibly before the end of the week!

Did everybody see this posted on falcon wire ?

I imagine the other two have the same problem. Hope to see him back in action soon.

Meanwhile, on the ledge
