:loveheart2: At 19:22, HopperJet arrived for his nightly check in on his family. Mom was brooding the chicks and stepped back away from them and they thought they were going to be fed again. He was lightly vocal. Mom started with her wails as she usually does to shoo him away, but they were surprisingly softer in volume than normal. He continued to stand there and then she took the volume up a notch and he left. She watched him leave, then went back to brooding the chicks. He seems so interested in his chicks, but she is still keeping him at bay for now. Hoping this changes soon.

:loveheart2: Several feeds today. Mom spent a lot of time away. Unsure if she was out of sight as in around the bend there or if she flew out some. One of the chicks walked over to behind the rock on the left and got some partial shade when it laid down. When Mom returned she went to that chick and kept looking back at the other in the bowl. Directly, she went over there and pecked the chick in the bowl. I wasn't sure if she wanted it to move over by the other chick or what was going on. The one chick soon got back to where it normally stays. I did not catch HJ on the DVR.

:loveheart: Sometimes when you go in now, you can only see part of 1 chick. Part of it and all of the other chick are in a cutout area on the back wall to the right of that big rock on the left. She did several feeds today, but one was from back against the wall near the cut out and only the chick that she could see its beak directly in front of her got the bites. Still periods of not seeing her on cam and still not sure if she is gone or just out of cam range.

:15heartbeat: They were fed several times today by Mom. I only got to see part of HopperJet when he passed off a meal to Mom. The chicks are getting more mobile and still hiding in the cut out at times. Other than when she is feeding or shielding them from the sun or checking on them, you don't see much of Mom till she broods at night. I guess she is just hanging out off cam to the left.

:5val: The Anacapa chicks after supper tonight (HopperJet brought in two Red-Necked Phalaropesin in two separate trips that Mom took to feed them) by Kiwi Bird:

Don't know if they'll stay the whole night to sleep, but they went offscreen to the right. Can only see the tail end of one right now.

:eggthumb: The Anacapa chicks have expanded their range over the last couple of days or so. Don't see Mom yet tonight, but she usually steps up on that rock at the left of the nest to spend the nights now. The chicks are good buddies, almost always together. HopperJet tried to feed them today when he came in with prey, but Mom caught him and finished the feed.

:eggthumb: At Anancapa it looks to be 1 male and 1 female here, but we may never know for sure as Dr. Sharpe might not be able to band this season d/t a circumstance out of his control. I can't remember exactly what that is, although it has something to do with a boat being able to dock safely as there is some kind of work or repairs maybe to the only place to dock on this island.

:eggthumb: Dr. Sharpe may get to band after all and if so, that will be later today:

Institute for Wildlife Studies Mod • 7 hours ago
We may be able to get to Anacapa on Thursday to band the peregrines. We would be taking a landing craft leaving Ventura sometime around 7 am, so I think we would be at the nest site sometime between 10 and 2, if things go right.

:7val: We have 1 male and 1 female. The band #'s not reported as yet. The male was banded 1st. He actually tried to escape as Dr. Sharpe was collecting him and got away and ran across behind Dr. Sharpe's back, but then captured. All during his banding he tried to escape and bit the gloved hand of the guy holding him several times. I think he has a whole lot of MOM in him with his feistiness and determination!! Unfortunately, we missed most of the females banding as the cam went to highlights and when it returned they had started packing up their gear and released the 2 from the bag and left.

:loveheart: Male: Black Band 19/AE on right and Federal Band on left. Here's a gif by Julia of his escape from Dr. Sharpe:

The big escape...run, run, run! :teehee:

This little guy is very special, tell you more later.

:15heartbeat: Well now I'm really bummed out. The male chick who does walk around and explore to the left some, was not there before dark last night on 5/23. The 2 of them ALWAYS sleep together. I checked this morning and throughout the day and he has not been seen on cam. I thought the feeds would draw him back if he could hear the deliveries, but they didn't. His sis is sleeping alone again tonight. I am very concerned for him and tend to think if he could be there he would be.
