new male brought prey to ledge, and prepped it. He then brought prey to Annie and she hesitated slightly but accepted and took it out and went out her little hole in wall. Was not gone long and came back. they bonded in box, she went back to eggs and he left. I only put in video, when he brought prey to her . I did not have time to video him bringing to ledge and prepping, but I watched it.

here is video

and a new chapter begins.

Thanks Bev!!

I bet you anything that they've had several "canoodles" and he thinks egg #3 is his..(and I guess it could be..)...otherwise, I don't think he would be showing this much interest/responsibility in the eggs..just my humble opinion....whatever the reason...its a good thing!!

These two have a good rhythm. Great to see.

What a hard season, but we must remember, that this male, has saved this nest. We do not know if he is the reason Grinnell is not here. It is their way, their instinct, and he is following his path. His limp may not be an injury but maybe something from birth,
He is really doing his job. So fingers crossed.

New Guy is on the ledge. It took me a while but I saw him move, so he's just resting his leg.

:15heartbeat: Found a couple articles on Grinnell and Annie and the "New Guy" and thought they would be of interest and important to document here. The first is on the saga of Grinnell and Annie and especially their difficulties beginning last fall, then reports on Annie and the "New Guy". It is well done and from "The Guardian" by Kari Paul:

‘The best reality TV’: how a falcon couple’s saga mesmerized a human audience

The second begins with the naming contest info, but then includes some significant information on why Grinnell could not be fully necropsied, what their plans are for his remains, how they will try to decide paternity (something we've all wished for at other sites with a similar incident) after the chicks are here and other interesting facts in general. From the "Berkeley News" by Gretchen Kell"

"No more ‘New Guy.’ Contest begins to name UC Berkeley falcon’s new mate"

:dancegirl: The new male here @ Berkeley has been named "Alden", I voted for Archie, but...

After 9,478 votes, we are excited to announce the winning name for New Guy: Alden!
Alden Miller, his namesake, (pictured here - sort of - with his collection of birds) was a student of Grinnell and succeeded him as director of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology.
Thank you to everyone who suggested names and voted. We were blown away by the amazing suite of names suggested by all of you!

Photo they put with announcement.
